The territory of the region lies on the Danube plain at an altitude of 119 m. n. m..
The Danube lowland is divided here into the Danube plain and the Danube uplands. The Danube plain fills the southwestern part of the region, it is almost without forests. We find chernozem here. The Danube Plain also includes the Martovská Wetland and the Novozámocká Plains, on which the town of Nové Zámky lies. The Danube Uplands, which include the Nitra, Žitavská, Ipeľská and Hronská Uplands, occupy 5/6 of the region's territory. Sandy-clay soils predominate here.

The rivers Danube, Hron, Nitra, Zittau, Ipeľ and, marginally, Váh flow through the Nové Zámky region. As they flow through this area through the lower streams, they affect the water management conditions of the district only insignificantly. The Danube lowlands are drained in the districts of the Váh, Nitra, Žitava, Hron, Ipeľ and Dunaj rivers. In addition to the mentioned rivers, there are several smaller watercourses in the district, such as the streams Paříž, Chrenovka and Cabajská potok.
