The village of Poľný Kesov lies 19 km southwest of Nitra between the rivers Nitra and Váh in the valley of the creek Cedron (Cabajská stream). Thermal water
There are many sources of thermal water in the district - Nové Zámky, Štúrovo, Dvory na Žitavou, Tvrdošovce, Šurany, Komjatice and Brut. In addition, there are important deposits of gravel sands in Dvory nad Žitavou, church check, Šurany, Nitranský Hrádek, felling, in Štúrovo and brick clay in Semerovo and Gbelka. Limited reserves of peat are located in the area of the municipalities of Zemní and Andovce.
Protected nature
There are unique natural values in the city. As of 1.1.1995 January 6, 8 national nature reserves, 8 nature reserves, 11 natural monuments, 16 protected areas and XNUMX protected trees were declared on our territory.
Berek Forest Park is located in the southwestern part of the city in Velký háj. It lies on the outskirts of Nové Zámky by the river Nitra. Access to the forest park is provided by a bridge over the river, which can be crossed on foot, by bike or on a moped. Operation in the forest zone is one- and multi-track motor vehicles are strictly prohibited. In terms of air, it is probably the cleanest part of our city. It is similar with garbage. The trees are of various types, perhaps the most common are common maple, horse chestnut and summer oak. There is also a group of chestnut trees, which are hidden deep in the woods. The unique over 200-year-old summer oak is located on the main asphalt sidewalk on the right side. It is a legally protected tree. Wherever you step up, they grow individually or in groups. Rarely can you come across snowdrops, but they occur only rarely.
Zúgov - nature preserve
Beautiful nature reserve Zúgov with phenomena such as water cascades is located on the northeastern edge of the town of Nové Zámky. It belongs to the protected natural areas. The Nitra River is divided into two parts above the water cascades, which means that there are up to two water cascades. The river again merges into one whole and flows along the eastern and southern edges of the city. The town leaves on the south-west side behind the Berek forest park. Access to the Zúgov waterfalls is possible by car, bicycle or on foot. The access road for motor vehicles is located on the road in the direction of Bánov. It is the last turn to the right, about 200 meters behind the city sign. The second option is for cyclists and pedestrians on the dam by the river Nitra.

The protected area was established in 1964 and is located in the cadastre of the village of Nová Vieska. The intention of the conservationists is to preserve the rest of the steppe plant and animal communities. Protected plant species found here include the low almond (Amygdalus nana), the spring head (Adonis vernalis), the stonechat (Stipa pulcherrima), the large-flowered grasshopper (Pulsatilla grandis) and the low iris (Iris pumila), and among the animals the green lizard ( Lacerta viridis) and Green Swallowtail (Papilio machaon). No human intervention is allowed here, which would disrupt or endanger natural conditions.
Paris wetlands - national nature conservation area
The protected area since 1966 is located in the cadastre of the village Gbelce. It is an area where an important internationally protected locality of waterfowl is located. In fact, it is a Central European nesting place for waterfowl and is used as a scientific research object. It is an important refuge for waterfowl during migratory flights. Various species of ducks nest here, the reed warbler (Acrocephalus sp.), The black-headed potato beetle (Saxicola torque), the kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), the little rattlesnake (Porzana parvo), the great bustard (Botaurus stellaris) and the little buzzard (Ixobrychus minutus). The rarest is the Lusciniola melanopogon, which reaches the northernmost point of its distribution. In the reservation, entry into the territory is allowed from 1.9. to 31.3. and no human intervention is allowed that would disrupt natural conditions. It is a reservation listed as a World Heritage Site.
Kamenínske slaniska - national nature conservation area
The protected area since 1953 is located in the cadastre of the village Kamenín. In this area there is one of the remains of salt soils of the salt marsh type with preserved original salt-loving vegetation. Characteristic are the so-called salt marsh windows, ie places with a higher concentration of salts. The most important plant species here include Gmelin's lime (Limonium Gmelinii) and Doubtful Iris (Iris fiercely). Other plants include Caruphorossma annua, Lepidium perfoliatum, Aster tripolium, Plantago maritima and Aster punctatus. Even in the area, any human intervention is prohibited.
Čenkovská steppe - national nature conservation area
The protected area since 1951 is located in the cadastre of the village of Mužla in the Čenkov Forest Complex. It represents the rest of the original steppe on composed of one sand with the occurrence of many species of flora and fauna. The most important plant species include Ephedra distachva, Iris arenaria, Stipa Joanna, Dianthus serotimus, Linum austriacum, Alkany tinctoria and Alkany tinctoria. Orchis militaris). Also, any human intervention that could change natural conditions is prohibited here.
Čenkovská lesostep - national nature conservation area
The protected area since 1965 is also located in the cadastre of the village of Mužla. The original community of the Pannonian sandy forest-steppe of extraordinary scientific value has been preserved here. This area is characterized by poplar - juniper community (Junipero-populetum). Juniperus communis, hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), bird's beak (Ligustrum vulgare), barberry (Berbiris vulgaris), white poplar (Populus alba) and gray poplar (Populus canescens) grow here. Grasses such as Poapratensis angustifolia, Calamagrostis epigeios, Festuca Šulce and Brachypodium silvaticum predominate in the herbaceous undergrowth. Any form of human intervention is prohibited in the area.
Vršek - nature preserve
The protected area has been located in the cadastre of the village of Štúrovo - Nána since 1965. The original community of xerothermophilic fauna and flora has been preserved here. Of the beetles, Ditomus clypeatus occurs here, of the most important insects are Licinus cassideus, Podonta nigrita, Henicopus pilosus. Among reptiles there is a protected green lizard (Lacerta viridis), a protected smooth viper (Coronella austriaca), from birds a protected golden bee-eater (Merops apiaster) and a red-headed magpie (LANius senátor). Protected plant species include Amygdatus nana, Jurinea mollis, Vrnica pannonica and Althaea pallida. All forms of human intervention are prohibited in the area.
Kováčov Hills - South - national nature conservation area
The protected area established in 1966 is located in the cadastres of the municipalities of Kamenica nad Hronom and Chľaba in the Burda forest complex. It hides many geomorphic elements. There are rock walls, Šút's cones, towers and rock avalanches. The specific natural conditions on the southern slopes of the mountains have caused many extraordinary plant species to be found in these places (as the only place in Slovakia). There are also plant species that are found only sporadically elsewhere. They are protected by law - Ash (Fraxinus ornus), Colutea arborescens, dogwood (Cornus mas), Adonis vernalis and Vrnica herbacea. Among the animals we can mention the Pannonian short-legged (Ablepharus pannonicus), the upper snake (Elaphe longissima), the wall lizard (Lacerta Murali), the common otter (Otus scops), the variegated rockfish (Monticone saxaticis) and the rock mason (Tichodroma muraria). Human activities that could change or endanger natural conditions are prohibited in the territory.
Kováčov Hills - North - national nature conservation area
The protected area since 1966 is located in the cadastre of the villages of Lela and Chľaba in the Burda forest complex. We find oak and oak - beech forest communities here. Forest stands with a preserved woody composition provide an opportunity to study the development of forests in the Danubian Lowland. Most of the territory of this locality is covered by mixed native woody plants, remnants of native forests and is therefore subject to protection.
Zittau meadow - nature preserve
The protected area since 1980 is located in the cadastre of the municipalities of Maňa, Kmeťovo, Michal nad Žitavou. Water and floodplain birds are protected in the area, and are used for scientific research and educational purposes. Drainage, felling and damage to trees and shrubs, starting fires, grazing livestock, mowing, construction and chemistry are therefore prohibited in these areas.
Black water - nature reserve
The protected natural creation since 1976 forms a section of the old bed of the Nitra River, cut off from the main stream during regulation. It is located in the cadastres of the municipalities of Šurany, Úľany nad Žitavou and Kostolná Sek. It crosses the road and the railway line between Šurany and Úľany nad Žitavou. Forms of vegetation of stagnant waters on the water surface and in the form of submerged communities rooted at the bottom have developed here. There is a species partially protected by law - the yellow nightingale (Nuphar lutea). This locality is one of the rare remnants of dead arm vegetation in the Danube plain.
Bíňanský loess profile - natural sight
The protected natural creation since 1976 consists of a loess wall and the bank of the Hron with a 50 m wide strip of fields. It is located in the cadastre of the village of Bína on the right bank of the Hron near the border in the Levice district. There is a rich occurrence of nesting holes of the common bream (Riparia riparia) and the golden bee-eater (Merops apiaster), both species are protected by law.
Oak in Velký Háj - a protected tree
It is a summer oak (Quercus robur), which grows in Velký Háj (Berek) near the forest in the cadastral area of Nové Zámky. The tree is of extraordinary height and age. The circumference of the trunk is 460cm, height 30m and age about 200 years. There are several extra large oaks in this locality, 3 of which are protected and 10 others are designed for protection.
Torozlín - nature preserve
It is a flood arm of the Nitra river in the cadastre of the village of Komjatice, the so-called Priest's Pit. It is the only place in the region where there is a protected animal - the mud turtle (Emys orbicularis). There is a typical mud vegetation with many rare species of plants.
Kamence - nature preserve
The area occupies forest stands on the main ridge of the Ipeľ Hills, on the border of the cadastres of the municipalities of Salka and Kamenín.
Dank Hill - a proposed nature reserve
This includes the southern part of Modrý vrch in the cadastre of the village of Štúrovo - Nána southeast of Modrý Majer. There are protected species of plants and animals that are comparable to species in the warmest parts of Slovakia.
RECREATION AND TOURISM
The surroundings of Nové Zámky also provide an inexhaustible number of attractions and opportunities for active recreation.
Štúrovo
The first mention of the settlement, where the important ford across the Danube lay, comes from the 11th century. Today, however, Štúrovo is known mainly as a railway and river crossing to the Republic of Hungary. There are well-known Yugoslav pulp and paper mills - one of the most modern factories of its kind in Central Europe. Štúrovo is just a short walk from the thousand-year-old Esztergom, where many historical monuments of our southern neighbors are concentrated. Tourists transport across the Danube in a few minutes, including cars, comps. However, visitors are most attracted to the area of the Vadaš thermal swimming pool. There are 22 swimming pools. There is a possibility of fishing in a small lake. Holidaymakers and sports facilities are available to holidaymakers, including tennis courts, bicycle, boat and other sports equipment rental.
Podhájska
Halfway between Nové Zámky and Lvice is the village of Podhájska. It was established in 1960 by merging two municipalities, Belek and Svätuša. There is a 13-hectare thermal swimming pool, whose water has beneficial effects on the regeneration of the body. The output of the spring is 50 l per second of 80 ° C hot water at a pressure of 4-7 atmospheres - these are parameters that no other thermal spring has in the whole of Slovakia. The swimming pool is used by visitors all year round, because the steam rising from the pool protects the body at all times of the year. There are swimming pools, playgrounds, restaurants, refreshments, for small visitors a children's swimming pool, sandpit and climbing frames.
Palárikovo
The village is located west of Nové Zámky. There is originally a Baroque chateau from the 18th century, later rebuilt in the Classicist style, which has a high artistic and historical value. The interior is furnished in a hunting style. Rare woody plants grow in the English park. In addition to this gem, Palárikovo is known throughout Central Europe by an extensive pheasantry of about 3000 hectares.
