We have been operating the Kempy-chaty.cz tourist portal focused on camping and camping for seven years, and even after seven years we still encounter the same problem. Visitors to our website, friends and acquaintances and many users on social networks still come to the cross because of camping. Over time, we couldn't help but notice why this was happening. Everyone imagines something different under the term camp. One says "camp" and by that means a place for tents and caravans, and the other imagines an area with attractions like in an amusement park. It can be said that both are right, because in the basic concept, both ideas belong to the concept of camping. Let's discuss why this is the case ..
Camps at the turn of 21. century
Until the year 2000 and at its turn, the camps were mostly only plaques intended for tents and for caravans or motor homes. Most of the camps still knew the post-communist "retro" atmosphere, even though we were in the 21st century and the internet, including social networks, is on the rise. At that time, they were all one and when it was said "we will go camping", it meant that we are going on a trip with a caravan or with their own tent. However, it was at this time that everything began to change and people began to diverge in impressions and concepts.
European campsite standards
As Europe evolved, the Czech camps began to develop with delays. In Europe, the campsite is called a facility that typically contains types of accommodation:
- fixed accommodation units (cottages, mobile homes, equipped big tents, bungalows, etc.)
- areas for caravans and caravans
- tents sites
In addition, you will find other services such as bicycle rentals, sports equipment, fully equipped cottages, or the possibility of boarding in the form of half board or full board. Here it is already beginning to resemble guesthouses, apartments, or even hotels. The background of the camps is also interesting. Pools are a common part of standard European campsites. Even many campsites have swimming pools, even though they are located directly by the sea. Here is an example Croatian camp Dolewhich provides fully equipped mobile homes, meals and the sea "free" :)
Or Italian camping Villaggio Dei Fiori, which has a swimming pool besides the sea. Hotel-level accommodation is still a camp site. But do not let yourself knit. Many Czech camps reach similar levels even though we do not have the sea here.
French camp Le Sainte Marie already more reminds of the best Czech camps alias holiday resorts. They have their pool, all the facilities, tents, caravans and various programs for adults as well as for children. That's what we have in Bohemia too. Besides, all of the European camps mentioned come from countries that are among the campsite powers, where service development greatly helps their lucrative location.
Compare Prices and Prices
As examples, I used camps, which are located in lucrative places and in addition to the sea. Many European campsites are not located by the sea, yet prices for accommodation 2x to 3x are higher than in Czech camps that meet European standards. An exception are only camps in Prague. Here we are almost at the same prices as in the camps of France or Italy.
Competitive ability of Czech camps
As I have already mentioned, many Czech camps meet European standards, both within the provided accommodation and within the services and facilities. The domain of ours is nature, cycling, mushroom picking, fishing, cultural and natural monuments, etc. We still do not care about European camps in quality. Good an example of classical Czech camping European level je Camping Karolina. The camp lies directly in the middle of the forest. You can stay in a fully furnished mobile home, cottage or even in the apartment. The camp is focused on family accommodation and leisure activities. Mushrooming, walking and cycling are an integral part of the campsite. In the vicinity of many natural attractions that can not be bypassed even in a week ..
Another an example of the European standard is Camping America at Františkovy lázně. Equipped cottages with boarding. A campsite with lots of attractions nearby and with facilities for caravans and tents.
Was I in the camp or was not in the camp?
Here we come to the core of the problem. Camper 1 he says he was in the camp and it was a trip with his own tent. Camper 1 docked on a plate in a fenced area, where the ice and reception are alias of the gatehouse. Apart from the tents and caravans, or the playground there is nothing else. In this case, it is a type of accommodation campgrounds, not a standard campsite. Even so, you can find such accommodation on many websites in the "camping" section. An ideal example is camping Děčín.
Camper 2 he also says he was in the camp, but it was needed Camp Bítov near the Vranov Dam. He stayed in a fully equipped mobile home with full board. We would rather assign this camp to the "recreational area" category, however, in the basic categorization, both the Bítov camp and the Děčín camp belong to the "camps" category.
It cannot be said that there is an abysmal difference in the quality of services provided between a camp, campsite or recreation center. As you could see from European examples, camping - camping is a broad concept and everyone can imagine something different under it. Compared to the years 2000 and 2022, there is a fundamental difference in the idea of what a camp is. One thing is for sure and many camps focus on flawless accommodation, others on the quality of services and facilities provided. Everyone suits something different ..
And how are you? Do you prefer camps that will provide you with above-standard accommodation, or are you more focused on the background in the form of plenty of opportunities for business trips or other activities? Share it with us in the comments.
