 LOCK NÁCHOD

The first mention of Náchod comes from the middle of the 11th century, when the Czech prince Wroclaw II. during his campaign to Silesia in 1068 in nearby Dobenín, he organized the election of a bishop of Prague. In the 11th and 12th centuries, there was probably a guard settlement near the earth gate called Branka, on the site of today's Old Town. He founded the castle itself and probably the town of Náchod Hron from the Načeratic family in the middle of the 13th century. The castle was built along the country's trade route near the Czech-Kladno border and was therefore of great strategic importance. Hron's descendants held Náchod until 1321, when it was acquired by the Czech King Jan of Luxembourg and from him in 1325 by Hynek of Dubá. Lords of Duba held the manor until 1367. In 1414 Náchod Boček from Kunštát and Poděbrady acquired it and in 1427 it was inherited by the future Czech King George of Poděbrady after the death of his father Viktorin. During the Hussite wars, the castle fell into the hands of the Hussites, and its crew therefore often had to repel attacks from Catholic Silesia. In 1437 the castle and the town were conquered by the Hussites Jan Kolda of Žampach, From which he undertook marauding expeditions into Bohemia and Silesia. George of Podebrady came into possession of his rightful inheritance to 1456 year, when the castle was conquered.

He was an important owner, whose government on the estate is connected with extensive construction activities genus Smiřických, in the second half of the 2th century one of the richest in Bohemia. Zikmund Smiřický of Smiřice bought Náchod in 16 and it remained in the possession of this family until 1544, when it was confiscated as part of the post-White Mountain confiscations for the participation of the Smiřickýs in the estate uprising. The last male member of the Albrecht Jan family, who inherited the Náchod estate in 1620, was an active participant in the estate resistance, personally participated in the May defenestration in 1614 and was also one of the thirty directors. However, his promising career ended prematurely with his unexpected death in November 1618. His sister Markéta Salomena acquired an extensive heritage of Smiřice and thus the Náchod estate, and the last night in Bohemia was spent by the so-called Winter King Friedrich Falcký, who spent the night here while fleeing the country. after the defeat on White Mountain. Immediately, Markéta Salomena also left Bohemia. Tobiáš Štefek from Koloděj, a burgher from Náchod, a member of the estate directorate and regent of the Smiřický estate, was among the 27 Czech leaders executed on the Old Town Square on 21 June 6.

In 1623, Magdalena Trčková of Lípa bought the Náchod estate and a few years later passed it on to her son. Adam Erdman Trčka. Adam was the last owner from the Czech nobility. His brother-in-law was the commander of the imperial troops, Albrecht of Wallenstein, whose mother also came from the Smiřický family and who was perhaps born at the Náchod chateau in 1583. Adam faithfully stood by his relative's side until his death on February 25, 2, when he was murdered with him in Cheb.

In the same year, the chateau and the manor passed into the hands of an Italian nobleman Ottavio Piccolomini de Arragona as a reward for helping to remove Wallenstein. At that time, thirty-five-year-old Ottavio had a long military service, during which he gained rich war experience. He joined the army at the age of seventeen, took part in the Battle of White Mountain, later became commander of Wallenstein's bodyguard, and in the battle of Lützen, Ottavi's "black cavalry" killed King Gustav II of Sweden. Adolf. Hand in hand with military success went the social rise and Ottavio was first promoted to the rank of count for his services, for the defeat of the French army at the town of Thionville in 1639 was rewarded by King Philip IV of Spain. Duchy of Amalfi and in 1643 received the Order of the Golden Fleece. At the end of the war he was at the head of the imperial troops in Bohemia. Finally, after diplomatic negotiations on the terms of the Peace of Westphalia, in which he participated as imperial plenipotentiary, he ended his successful career by winning the title of hereditary prince of the Reich. He was also the holder of the Order of St. Štěpán Pisánský. The Piccolomini family owned the manor until 1783, and during his reign the castle essentially received its present appearance.

In 1792 bought the estate Peter Biron, Duke of Courland and Sagan. This scholar and lover of art and science has had a colorful life full of dramatic twists. He grew up in the environment of the imperial court, in 1740 at the age of sixteen he followed his father into a long-term exile to Siberia. In 1769, he succeeded his father in the Duchy of Curonia, reformed underdeveloped education, supported art and science, and sought the economic prosperity of the country. The unhappy domestic political situation and the interference of Poland and Russia in Curonian affairs led to the Duke's abdication in 1795. In just a few years of his reign, he raised the level of local cultural life on the Náchod estate in a few years. He set up a theater directly at the chateau, where he organized opera performances, carols and plays. He proved his progressive and enlightenment reform spirit, among other things, by following the example of chamber estates, he transferred work duties to the local estate for salary. After the duke's death in 1800, the estate was inherited by his eldest daughter Kateřina Bedřiška Vilemína, known as the Princess from the novel Babička by Božena Němcová. This Duchess of Zaháň entered history mainly by her active participation in the formation of the last anti-Napoleonic coalition in 1813.

In 1842 estate purchased by Prince Georg Wilhelm of Schaumburg-Lippe for 2 500 000 gold for his second son Wilhelm Karl August and thus founded Náchod 'second family. Son William's marriage Frederick at the end of the 19th century, the family was related to the Danish princess Luisa with the Danish royal family. These German princes ruled in Náchod until the end of World War II. On June 2, 21, all property was confiscated and transferred to the state administration.
