Interesting places in the forest
Bicycle path
A unique 16-kilometer inline and cycle path starts right at the guest house and takes you into the city forests. The circuit was built in 2015 and, as already mentioned, is unique in the Czech Republic in that its route leads along the entire length of the forest. Thanks to the favorable profile, the circuit is also suitable for beginner skaters, children and wheelchair users. There are several rest areas, refreshments and even covered fireplaces in case you would like to grill something along the way.. Sports activities in the immediate vicinity include a tennis court, paintball field, riding school, GoMan-go sports studio, bowling alley and bowling.
Fairytale trail
A fairytale trail full of stories leads through the Hradec Králové forests, escaping stories that hide many forest lessons and secrets. The route, which is approximately 2,5 km long, winds from Mazura's cottage and ends at the Výskyt pond. In the beautiful countryside, visitors will gradually get acquainted with fairy tales and characters by the artist and writer Marta Pohnerová, such as the dragon Větvička, the magician Šišule or the blueberry fairy. The individual fairy tales on the panels are accompanied by characters carved by a local carver.
Knight's fort
Near the Kříž and Češík ponds in the vicinity of the forest cemetery there is a unique natural children's park Rytířské hradiště. Here, small and large visitors can admire knights, princesses, as well as witches and other fairy tale characters. Hradiště allows you to observe the surrounding forests from the castle tower or use the sandpit, maze with climbing frames or roast burritos on the fireplace. Hradiště is decorated with drawings by children from the art school of Mrs. Marta Pohnerová and wood carvings by the carver Mr. Miroslav Kříž. The road to the fort is well marked, undemanding and suitable for both prams and the disabled.
There are two marked paths to the knight's fort - the first, more suitable for prams and the handicapped, leads from Zděná bouda around the Češík pond (length 1 km), the second, more like a forest footpath, is marked from Zděná bouda around a natural burial ground (length 700 m) . Both routes can be found marked in the photo gallery below.
Access to the complex is possible all year round, entry is not limited by any operating hours.
Mazurova cottage
The largest building with recreational facilities in the Hradec Králové forests is Mazurova chalupa near Hoděšovice. Historically, there were two cottages here, 250 years ago. One of them was also owned by the farmer Josef Mazura, later it became a wooden hunting lodge. The dilapidated building was not completely renovated until 2008-2009. At the Mazurova cottage is the beginning of a fairytale trail.
The surroundings of Mazurova chalupa are listed as sites of European importance and in 2002 it was declared a nature reserve. The cottage is therefore a popular and popular viewing stop, located on the main bike paths leading from the nearby town of Hradec Králové.
Trails for wheelchairs
The complex of urban forests on the outskirts of Hradec Králové offers many opportunities for movement in nature. The fourth (in the Czech Republic) marked route for wheelchair users will make it possible to bring this area closer to the disabled. Two routes are prepared - blue from the Forest Cemetery to the Výskyt pond and red from Nový Hradec Králové by forest paths again to the Výskyt pond. Marked routes give the possibility of their mutual combination and also the possibility to find your own routes with a connection to the marked trails. All asphalt forest roads are also suitable for wheelchair users.
Route blue - starting at the final bus No. 9 near the Forest Cemetery, where there is also a public car park and leads along the asphalt road to the crossroads in Vlčí jáma, where it crosses the red route. It continues to the next crossroads, U Dvou šraňků. They turn left along the red hiking trail and continue together to the Výskyt pond (3 km).
Red route - this route can be taken on the final buses No. 1 and 2 in Nový Hradec Králové, from where you can get along Přemyslova Street together with the green pedestrian route and around the HK as Forest Headquarters to the footbridge (you will find a small car park in front of the footbridge) above the road R35. Behind the footbridge, the path leads along forest paths to the crossroads in Vlčí jáma, where it crosses the blue route, and continues along forest paths to the U Svinar crossroads. The route continues along with a red sign for about 300 m, then turns right and still along forest roads you reach the crossroads at the pond Výskyt (11 km).
Wheelchair routes are marked on the tourist map of the Municipal Forests with an orange dashed line.
Hiking trails by train
You can go to the city forests on foot, by bike, skates and scooters. Those who want to see our forests, but do not dare to go on a longer trip, are offered the opportunity to go to the forest by tourist train and enjoy a ride with an explanation. The train rides for the public are carried out by Hradecká lesní a dřevařská společnost as in cooperation with our company and the Transport Company of the City of Hradec Králové as every Monday. There are two routes on offer that try to cover the most interesting places in the forests for tourists. The capacity of the train is 36 seats, so we recommend booking in advance.
Game park with wild pigs, mouflons and fallow deer
Hradec Králové's urban forests have built a new field for fallow deer. Near the U Dvou šraňků game preserve there are two enclosures - a new one for fallow deer and an older one for wild boars, which is very popular among people and wild pigs go there to feed dozens of people every day. Wild pigs can be observed and fed from an immediate distance, which is an experience not only for children but also for adult visitors to the forest.
Reconciliation Cross
In the Middle Ages, it was possible to apply the system of so-called conciliation law when punishing perpetrators, when the perpetrators were given a task to atone for their crime. Such a task could have been the carving and erection of a stone cross at the place where the crime was committed.
The cross is located near the place "Na Haltýři" on the right side on the way from Bělče to Svinar, on the so-called Bělečská road (today there is a marked red tourist route). There is a carved cross on the stone, two axes placed over his shoulders and a faded inscription from the 16th century. According to legend, two companions went to Bělče to buy a calf, and when they returned, they started arguing about them. In doing so, they killed each other. In memory of this act, a monument was placed here. The stone with a carved cross is protected as an immovable cultural monument.
Imperial well
You will find the Imperial Well on the route of the green tourist sign near the Hunters' Monument. In its vicinity is also PP Císařská studánka, where you can admire a 170-year-old torso of a mixed stand of beeches, pines and spruces with mixed oaks and birches.
In 1875, the forester František Rotter built a triangular chapel by the well to commemorate the wedding anniversary of Emperor Franz Josef I and his cousin Elizabeth of Bavaria (the wedding took place on April 24, 1854). Since then, it has been called "U Císařské studánky". The original marble plaque with the inscription, set in the wall of the chapel, unfortunately disappeared before 1928. Perhaps this happened at the end of the monarchy in 1918, when the symbols associated with the Habsuburks and the empire were removed.
In the period before 1989, the springs of the well were damaged by inappropriate land reclamation. Our company restored the situation with the help of a subsidy from the Rural Development Program in 2014 and brought water back to the well.
