Walking trips from Doks and the surrounding area

ROUTE "A"
A person traveling on the road from Staré Splavy to Česká Lípa usually has no idea that on his left hand, just behind the Splavská intersection, lies a landscape that many people meet only in their imagination. The deep gorges, which are dark even on summer sunny days, rock passages, where snow is still often in June, bizarre rock towers, all create a real maze. Above them you can see Šedina (473 m), Maršovická hora (516 m) and Holý vrch (423 m). The vegetation here is mostly coniferous, not very permeable off roads. It is worth mentioning the need to equip yourself with a drink, because this area is very poor in water. We can find interesting remnants of people's activities in times past, especially in carved carvings or quarries, where building stucco were breaking. In the past, this area often served as a refuge for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages in bad times, or people with criminal tendencies. The most famous is the Brandenburg Cave, a glass overhang in the gorge below Holý vrch, where the people in 1741 fled the plundering Prussian army.Nada Skalka directly below the hill Šedina is an idyllic group of cottages surrounded by forests and pastures, a place from which you can directly enter into the forests. (The Czech giant Jára Cimrman also liked the place, who spent one of his thirty-second birthdays here.)

"A1" ROUTE
From Doksy follow the red trail along the railway line to Hotel U jezera, across the road by a dirt road to the forest to the so-called Pancířovo pole, from where there is a beautiful view of the lake, Doksy and Bezděz. From there about 300 m forest (edge of field to the right) and crossing the road with el. by leading at the edge of the field, we do not enter the forest along the road, but we walk 40 m off the road along the edge of the field in the north direction and take care not to miss the unobtrusive mouth of the road through the narrow valley. We are already at the bottom of the Selská rokle and we turn left along the yellow trail. Tourists from Staré Splavy will come directly along the yellow trail from the intersection at the parking lot. After one kilometer we reach the crossroads and turn left along the green trail to Nová Skalka. Here we turn right along the green triangles and ascend to the glass formations on the hillside of Šedina. We will not go back following the signs, we will go around Šedina along the contour line (the peak is overgrown and without a view) and we cannot miss the yellow sign, following the southwest to Starý Berštejn (castle ruins from the turn of the 500. then through Vrchovany around the forest chapel of st. Barbara (15) via Nový Berštejn, where there is a Baroque chateau from the 1747 half. century, today converted into a luxury hotel. There is an English park in the castle garden with a golf course and swimming pool. From there we come to Dubá, from where we can return by bus.

"A2" ROUTE
From Staré Splavy follow the green trail around Nový rybník (New Pond), across the main road through Dlouhý doly and Útočiště gorge to the Brandenburg Cave. From the saddle below the cave we descend to the Black Gorge and the green trail will lead us to a crossroads, from where we can return to Staré Splavy, or before it is also possible to climb the yellow Uhlířův Mine to Šedina and see the A1 route.

"A3" ROUTE
From Staré Splavy follow the red mark Vůbčářská rokle, about 300m before the end of the valley there is a rock town on the left side. It is worth to climb high above the path into the rocks, or to return to them from the crossroads at the end of the gorge. Further on the slope of the Holy Hill through the saddle above the Black Gorge around Strážní vrch and Maršovická Mountain along the contour line to the settlement Maršovice. Under the forest beautiful views of the Českolipsko and Lusatian Mountains. Down the red trail, which we leave at the exit of the forest on the right and after an unmarked road through the New World, the Long Gorge (green trail) return to Staré Splavy, or we reach Jestřebí. From there it is possible to continue along the red trail through the forest called Rožec towards Zahrádky or Vřísek and Holany. We can return to Staré Splavy or Doksy by bus or train, or on foot via Provodín along the blue trail.
ROUTE "B"
Most of the photographs in the tourist publications show Máchovo Lake with two peaks of Bezděz in the background. Forests between the lake and Bezděza represent a typical picture of Macha's region for most Doks visitors, and it is interesting that these are mostly artificially planted forests that did not exist at the time of KH Macha. What makes this area more suitable for sport, recreation, forest harvesting and health walks, makes it less attractive to lovers of natural beauty, at least as far as the dull classic hiking path from Doksy to Bezděz is concerned. Turn your attention to the newly discovered Slatine Hills, the hidden Marian Pond in the woods, or rock formations just outside the town around the King's See. On the Marian road, which led directly to Kuřivod and formed the shortest connection between the chateaux in Doksy and Mnichovo Hradiště, we can walk almost to the New Pub, where only fruit trees in the middle of the forest resemble the place where the inn used to be.

ROUTE "B1"
From the rec. We will walk Termit 3 km along the cross-country circuit, which is marked with red triangles, at the crossroads of four paths under the Slatinne Hills. There we leave the marked cross-country trail and climb 600 m on the way to hayloft and meadow, from where we ascend directly to the first of the peaks (430 has a partial view). We can visit three other peaks gradually, but we have to take into account that there is no path at the top. After the descent we will be captivated by the majestic ruins of Bezděz towering above us. If we take any of the routes south-east, after a while climb up the asphalt forest road, some of which offer special views of Machovo Lake and the Jestřebská Basin, if we follow it clockwise around Bezděz. In any case, we reach the village of Bezděz, from where we take our own climb to the castle. It is also worth mentioning Malý Bezděz. It is a protected area (national nature reserve with the presence of Alpine Longhorn) without marked paths. If we are lucky, we can possibly see the mouflons that occur in these places. From Bezděz we can continue along the blue trail to the Waldstein region, the red trail to Žďár and Houska or the green trail to Windows. The shortest way to return to Doksy is Macha's trail along the red trail, which will take us back to the Termit area.

ROUTE "B2"
An undemanding, but very nice trip is a trip to the picturesque and romantic Marian Pond. The starting point can be Dokske Square, from where we follow the red trail to the left of the church down. The "Mácha's Trail", which would lead us to Bezděz, is marked in red. We will follow it around the Termit recreation area across the field, continue through the forest and cross a large meadow. Then, after about 200, we arrive at a place where deeper sand appears and the path seems to be bifurcated. Here we turn right on the unmarked road. After it we will go about 1 km, on the right side reed overgrown swamp - it is already the eastern tip of the pond. We will continue further until we reach the crossroads of the roads where we turn right. The path leads us to the dam of the pond, whose surface is surrounded by four rock blocks. From the dam is an unusual view of Bezděz and on the other side we can see houses in the village of Obora. This place is one of the most picturesque places around. Because of the swampy terrain, we must return the same way.

ROUTE "B3"
A walk for undemanding tourists. From Doksy follow the yellow sign to Králův stolec (2,5 km, the largest of the group of rock blocks, partial view), back to the road, leave the sign and continue right SE towards the crossroads of four roads (Mariánská cesta continues to the east), turn right and follow 400 m again to the right, opposite the direction of the red cross-country circuit. After 200 m you will notice sandstone rock towers 50 m to the right of the road, after another 100 m to the left of the road there is an overgrown stucco quarry, where sandstone stucco used to break stone houses. After the red circuit we will finish the whole route again at the Termit restaurant in the TJ Doksy area.

ROUTE "C"
For decades, the area called the Hradčany Walls in the Polomené Mountains was considered to be the most attractive region in terms of natural beauty. They rise directly from the NE shore of Máchovo Lake and are bordered by the Ploučnice River Valley in the north.
Even in the thirties it was interwoven with a network of hiking trails leading from Doksy and Staré Splavy to the Hradčany walls. Later, it became part of one of our largest military premises, although the army, except for small territories, was not doing much. Even today it is still a military area, but it is difficult to prevent the walks of savvy tourists to the ends, whose wildness and inaccessibility will in the future protect against the mass influx of tourists. The whole area is covered with coniferous and beech forests. Volcanic clusters of oak (458 m) and Pec or Pecopala (451 m) rise from jagged sandstone floors. They differ from other rock towns in the surroundings of Dubá, for example, by the beech forests, only the northern part called Hradčany Walls has a traditional coniferous cover. More than 1 / 4 territory in the western part is inaccessible fenced game park. The eastern part occupies the Pecopala state nature reserve. It is currently under consideration to establish another reservation of the Hradčanské Walls and it is possible that movement in this area will be restricted in the future. The routes described below start from Doksy and Staré Splavy and end in Hradčany with a planned return by bus. Of course, in the morning you can take a bus to Hradčany (which we recommend) and end the journey with a refreshing bath in Máchovo Lake. For orientation in the field we recommend the tourist map "Českolipsko" in 1 scale: 50000, or the map of the Czech Tourists Club number 15 "Macha's Area" in the same scale.

ROUTE "C1"
From Doksy we will go east along the yellow trail around the King's throne to the dam of Břehyňský pond (nature reserve, swimming ban and a familiar view of Bezděz). From there continue along the yellow to the rock tower Čihadlo (unmarked, but you can see 50 m to the left of the road). Then we leave this mark and ascend north to Havířský vrch, from whose now overgrown peak offers the most beautiful view of the lake, Doksy and forests stretching to the horizon. Along the way, we notice the rows of broken pits in the rock and watch out just below the summit for a fall into a few meters long shaft. Both are relics of limonite mining three centuries ago. Hence the name of the hill. After returning to the yellow trail we continue to the foothills of Borný, from where more experienced hikers can climb a rocky outlook (view of the lake and Staré Splavy), or up to the top of the 447 m high mountain, where grown trees make it impossible to see. On the way to Staré Splavy we can also visit the top of the Šroubený hill, which dominates the northern shore of the lake. From Staré Splavy it is possible to return to Doksy by boat, train, bus or on foot along the red trail.

ROUTE "C2"
Yellow sign to Břehyň and Borný, blue to Gravel Gorge through Cannon Road, Long Gorge to Hradčany - 25 km or from Hradčany along the green sign through Desolate Churches, Rock and Senna Gate to Staré Splavy - 50 km.
There are two ways to take the route. Either we start from Doksy along the yellow trail towards Břehyň (see description of trip C 1). Behind Borný we will come across a blue sign, which will be our guide to Hradčany.
Or we can get on the route by walking along the asphalt road leading from Břehyně to Staré Splavy. At the point where the road crosses the hills of Borný and Malý Borný, a forest path marked with a blue tourist mark turns right to the lower vegetation. By gravel gorge we climb the asphalt road, the so-called Cannon Road. It leads the NW-SE towards the ridge and will represent for us the first important orientation line. If we follow it on the left to NW, after some time it will turn into an ordinary forest road and we will be stopped by a game park fence. We will follow it on the right along the blue trail. After less than a kilometer we turn left downhill. A challenging stretch awaits us for orientation. We walk past the forest seating and keep turning northwest downhill. We will go down a steep descent under the Ashes ridge to Dlouhá rokle. We cross the narrow asphalt road and enter the gorge called Staré Zahrady. We follow the blue mark closely, we are not turning anywhere, as it is very easy to get lost here. The blue trail leads us virginally pure nature and around the unique rock formations at the crossroads with the green trail. Here we have a choice. Either we continue along the blue trail to Hradčany, or we prefer another journey through the quiet uncivilized landscape and turn left to the green trail that leads us through the Desolate Churches, Rock and Senna Gate, Border Mine along the enclosure to Staré Splavy (see trip C 3) . We recommend this route only to savvy tourists, as the entire route is 50 km.

ROUTE "C3"
From Staré Splavy we will follow the blue trail towards Provodín, which will lead us to a narrow asphalt road that leads along the game preserve fence to the gamekeeper's lodge. Here we will notice the green trail, which we will follow up to Hradčany. The trail leads us along the game park fence to the deep Border Mine. We climb up, bizarre rock formations on both sides of the road should not escape our attention. After about two kilometers we reach a picturesque and interesting place called Senná Brána. There used to be two cottages and a gamekeeper's lodge, which provided shelter and refreshments for hikers. The preserved building is already inside the game park to which we do not have access. It is not far from the Gate to very interesting rock formations, quite sought after in the past. After about 500 m walk (still along the narrow asphalt road) we turn right along the green trail, which will lead us to the first sandstone formation - Rock Gate. It is a miniature of the well-known Pravčická Gate, it is about 4 m high and equally wide. We can find it in the area south below the summit. Much more breathtaking, however, is an extraordinary rock, for which the name was known Pusté (Dog) churches or more commonly used German name Hundskirche. We will reach it by following the green sign. The rock is permeated with corridors and caves, so that this large stone block is actually carried by natural pillars and the space underneath is so light that it seems as if it should collapse at any moment. It is about 200 meters from the Rock Gate. The green trail will lead us to Hradčany. Along the way we will see several other rock towers.

The area around Doksy is predestined for cycling. It is a slightly hilly terrain (although some short sections are quite steep) with deep forests, interwoven with a network of paths, paths and low-traffic roads.

The area passes through one of the main cycling routes and No. 27, coming from the village Kytlice (north of Nový Bor) and heading to Prague. The passage points are Česká Lípa, Zahrádky, Holany, Loubský důl, Dubá, Rozprechtice, Beškovský Mine, Tubož, Ráj and Kokořínský důl.

We offer several cycling trips starting and ending in Doksy or Staré Splavy. Some of the proposed circuits are passable on travel bicycles, for most of them trekking bikes are suitable and only some of them are better off on mountain bikes. The suitability of using a bicycle is indicated for each trip.

Doksy was supposed to be the destination of the long-distance cycling route from Most, which unfortunately did not come off. However, its continuation is marked - route No. 25. It starts at the railway station and leads along Máchova Street and at the crossroads at PLUSU on the left along the road towards Mimoň to Břehyně, where it turns to the lodge U tří borovic. From there through the military area along the Marian road to Kuřívod and Křižany.

Another marked route is the route No. 3045, which leads from Zákupy through Provodín around the Splavská preserve along the asphalt road below Borný to the intersection with the Doksy-Mimoň road. From the intersection along this road along the route No. 25 to Břehyně and then along the Marian road to the village of Bezděz and from there to Bělá pod Bezdězem.
