Mutěnice and surroundings
Mutěnice is part of the Slovácko wine region in South Moravia, which has about 3700 inhabitants. The South Moravian Region is located in the south-western part of the Czech Republic and forms the historical part of the Moravia region. The capital of this region is Brno. Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic.
Part of the village Mutěnice is also a part called Bůdy or Pod Búdama, where there are over 500 wine cellars. Some of these cellars are used for wine production and storage, and some cellars have been renovated and also provide wine tasting, wine sitting and guest accommodation.
The wine cellars are also the basis for several traditions that are organized in the village of Mutěnice. These are, for example, the Traditional Wine Show, the Open Cellars Day (third Saturday in April), and the March of the Slovácké Inhrody (the second Saturday in October).
Mutěnická wine region contains four villages: Mutěnice, Dubňany, Ratíškovice and Milotice. This region is well known for the production of wonderful wine, which often wins the highest prizes in various competitions in the Czech Republic.
Several important wine companies are based in this region, but the land and vineyards are mostly privately owned by small winemakers, who farm in vineyards with an average size of 0,1 - 0,5 ha and produce cask wines. Several winemakers focus on their vineyards and cellars at the business level, focusing on the adjective wines they bottle.
Mutěnice is also famous for the Wine Cycle Route. This trail is about 65 km, and passes through the surroundings of the wine villages Mutěnice, Čejc, Čejkovice, Kyjov and leads through the slightly waved landscape of Kyjovské hills.
