In this picturesque part of northern Bohemia, you will really find everything that can appeal to you - peaks offering breathtaking views, deep forests, romantic valleys, monuments and preserved folk architecture typical of this region.

Our receptionists will be happy to advise you and give you information about the possibilities of sports and cultural activities and trips to the surroundings, as the pension is ideally located for exploring the beauties of our region, cultural and historical monuments Varnsdorf and surrounding towns and villages of the Lusatian Mountains. , Bohemian Switzerland or Upper Lusatia in Germany.

You can actively use your free time, whether it is cycling on well-marked and well-maintained cycle paths and hiking on both sides of the border with Germany or swimming in natural reservoirs and swimming pools. In Varnsdorf there are also tennis courts, a multi-purpose sports hall, a volleyball and football pitch and an indoor 25-meter swimming pool. There are several rock formations and terrains for climbers, a rope center and other sports facilities, especially in nearby Jiřetín pod Jedlovou and Rumburk.

In winter there are opportunities for downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and sledding (Jiřetín pod Jedlovou, Horní Podluží, Polevsko, Luž-Horní Světlá, Waltersdorf). Although the Lusatian Mountains are not among the highest mountains and their winter resorts among the most famous, you will still find groomed downhill and cross-country trails of varying difficulty. The ice stadium is directly in Varnsdorf or you can skate in nearby Rumburk or in the German border spa Jonsdorf.

Many of you may prefer adrenaline experiences (wild downhill on mountain bikes or scooters, rafting on the Elbe and Nisa, rope centers, bobsleigh track in nearby Oberoderwitz, balloon flight or paragliding). Others welcome the more intimate and soothing surroundings of the nearby golf courses with breathtaking views of the surroundings.

We can not forget about relaxation and rest after demanding hikes, sports performances or adrenaline experiences. And we can take care of this!

Tips for trips

The convenient location of the pension offers visitors a large selection of trips, sports and entertainment. Varnsdorf is located on the northern edge of the Lusatian Mountains and on the border of the Elbe Sandstone Protected Landscape Area, the Bohemian Switzerland National Park and the Šluknov Hills. The whole area is characterized by natural beauty, numerous lookout towers, preserved sets of folk architecture and one of the cleanest air in the Czech Republic. More than half of the area is covered by extensive preserved forests. The adjacent border, especially in Germany (Saxony - Upper Lusatia) provides additional opportunities for trips, entertainment and sports, with regard to quality tourist and transport infrastructure in all areas.

Walking trips around

Lusatian Mountains

From Varnsdorf you can plan a number of trips to the protected landscape area (PLA) of the Lusatian Mountains and their immediate surroundings. In addition to a number of historical monuments, a number of cultural and sports facilities, there are a number of natural attractions. The Lusatian mountains, sometimes somewhat neglected, are beautiful mountains with well-preserved forests, clean air and picturesque villages.

Tourism has a long tradition in the Lusatian Mountains. Pedestrian routes were marked at the end of the 19th and in the first half of the 1th century. The highest point of the Lusatian Mountains and at the same time the highest peak in Germany east of the Elbe is the mountain Luž (793 meters asl). On the contrary, we descend to the lowest altitude if we visit the valley of the river Kamenice (290 meters above sea level).

The Lusatian Mountains are considered to be the quietest and quietest mountains in our country. It is also one of the smallest - they stretch in the length of 29 km, the width is from 3,5 km to 12 km. It lies between Děčín and Liberec. In addition to the unspoiled nature, a typical element of this mountain range is also the unique preserved architecture with timbered buildings - the so-called half-timbered houses.

The surroundings of cross-border hiking trails (Dolní Světlá - Waltersdorf, Krompach - Jonsdorf, Krompach - Hein, Petroviče - Lückendorf) belong to the most visited places in the Lusatian Mountains Protected Landscape Area. The top dominants Jedlová, Luž, Hvozd and Klíč will offer you far-reaching views. More details also in the Lookout towers section.

On Jedlová hora (774 meters above sea level) there is a lookout tower, which is one of the most visited tourist places in the whole area. It is the third highest mountain in the Lusatian Mountains and offers a beautiful circular view of the Lusatian Mountains, Bohemian Switzerland, Sluknov region, German Lusatia, in good weather you can see Kozakov, Jested, Trosky, Bezděz, Říp, Děčínský Sněžník, but also the ridge of the Ore Mountains, České Středohoří and Milešovka, as well as Sněžka in the Giant Mountains. In front of the cottage built in 1891 by the owner, Ferdinand Kinský, there is a monument to the German poet and playwright Friedrich Schiller from 1905 (it was repaired in 1996).

According to some, the most beautiful view in Bohemia is the view from the top of the Klíč key (759 m above sea level). You can see a varied mosaic of landscape shapes, from the Jizera Mountains, the Giant Mountains through Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland to the Ore Mountains. A red tourist sign leads to Klíč from two sides - from the south of Nový Bor (5 km) and from the east of Svor (2,5 km). The sidewalk crosses the northern slope, a branch in several serpentines leads to the very top. The ascent is quite demanding, but comfortable. From Svor you have to count on 45 - 60 minutes, from Nový Bor with approx. an hour and a half.

According to others, the most beautiful view of the ridge of the Lusatian Mountains is from Hrádek in Varnsdorf.

The unusual shape, which resembles the backs and heads of elephants, attracts a natural monument called White Stones. In 2001, the international educational trail "Lusatian and Zittau Mountains" was reconstructed, which monitors the geological conditions and natural attractions in the eastern part of the PLA. The Zlatý vrch National Monument, in which the basalt columns can be seen more than twice as long as on Panská skála near Kamenický Šenov, is one of the stops on the "Around Studenec" nature trail.

The Czech Tourist Club operates in Varnsdorf, which organizes a number of tourist events and excursions and takes care of marking hiking trails and paths. In 2008, a new tourist marked route (yellow) was marked, which passes from Großschönau and continues on the Czech territory in Varnsdorf via Špičák and Hrádek and further to Germany (Seifhennersdorf). A shaped branch branches off at both peaks. An information map was installed at the crossing to Großschönau.

The connection of well-maintained tourist routes on the Czech side with the German (Saxon) ones was made after 1989. Interesting marked routes include routes from Jedlová via Zlatý vrch and Studenec, from Chřibská or Rybniště to Česká kamenice, from Dolní Podluží via Klíč, from Svor via kytlice to Polevsko or ascent to Luž from Dolní Světlá.

Tolštejn estate

For those who prefer to walk in the mountains and forests alone, we recommend the tourist map of the Tolštejn estate, according to which you can get to know interesting places of this microregion, but also collect original stamps and glass Tolštejn tailors or a map from the KCT edition of Bohemian Switzerland. , according to which you can get to know the whole local region.

Tolstejn is a former castle that played an important role in the northern border of the Czech Kingdom in the Middle Ages. Today it is a ruin, from where visitors offer wonderful views of the surroundings. The mentioned microregion forms a union of Tolštejn municipalities (Dolní Podluží, Doubice, Horní Podluží, Chřibská, Jiřetín pod Jedlovou, Krásní Lípa, Rybniště, Varnsdorf). The figurine of the microregion is the robber Vilda, in the footsteps of which you can follow. The whole game is intended primarily for children, as it can connect hiking trips, exploring the area and history with the natural need for adventure, suspense and games.

The dominant feature of the Tolštejn estate is, in addition to the above-mentioned ruins of the medieval castle Tolštejn, a small town Jiřetín pod Jedlovou. It is the largest and best equipped winter sports center in the Lusatian Mountains. Of interest of paramount importance is Křížová hora - a granite hill with a chapel and the Stations of the Cross, which consists of 11 Rococo niche chapels with stone reliefs. There is also a hill nearby Jedlová.

Bohemian Switzerland National Park and the Elbe Sandstone Protected Landscape Area

The area of sandstone rocks and rock towns around Děčín Hřensko, called Bohemian Switzerland, was only recently, in 2000, declared the fourth national park in the Czech Republic. The territory of this NP, together with PLA Labské pískovce, has been sought after for a long time, is accessible to tourists by a traditional network of marked paths and 3 nature trails. The most famous places include:

  • National natural monument Pravčice Gate (unique rock bridge), recently declared the biggest natural wonder of the Czech Republic
  • The quiet and wild gorge of the river Kamenice (rowboat ride from Hřensko)
  • Jetřichovice rocks, the most famous include:

The seat of the Administration of the Czech Switzerland National Park is the city Krásná Lípa. The local museum has a permanent exhibition of tourism, glassmaking and the history of the city. An interesting tourist place is the nearby hill Vlčí hora (580 meters above sea level) with a lookout tower. The Kögler Nature Trail is also nearby.

Important centers of recreation in the region are Hřensko, Jetřichovice, Rynartice, Chřibská and Doubice.

Bike routes / Bike trips

Backbone route and routes in the immediate vicinity of the border with Germany:

A marked backbone cycle route from Großschönau to Seifhennersdorf leads through the town, not far from the guest house. In Großschönau, this route is disconnected from the so-called Krakonoš Trail. This route would form the basis of the planned trail "K pramenům Mandavy" and should continue further to Rumburk and Dolní Křečany.

In Seifhennersdorf you can also use the so-called Karask cycle path (Karasek Radweg), leading from there to Leutersdorf, where you can follow in the footsteps of the Czech robber Johannes Karášek (approx. 21 km). We recommend a visit to the Karásk Museum.

We also recommend the route from Varnsdorf to Dolní Podluží, Jiřetín pod Jedlovou, Tolštejn, Horní Světlou, Krompach, Kurort Jonsdorf, Waltersdorf and back to Dolní Podluží and Varnsdorf.

The Lusatian mountains are an important area for ice climbing. In the German part, climbing on ice falls is forbidden due to the brittle sandstone, in our country it is not yet particularly restricted by nature conservationists. Ice climbing locations are:
