Znojmo and wine are very closely connected with them. When the wine started to grow in the Znojmo region, there are no accurate records. It is said that the vines brought to Rome the Roman legions. But the cultivation of grapevine was rooted in the period of the Great Moravian Empire. The first written references come from 11. and 12. century. At the end of 13. The wine-making guild was founded in Znojmo. The Znojmo wine had an excellent reputation and was delivered to the table of Czech kings. Up to 16. century viniculture and winemaking succeeded, but fell for long after the Thirty Years' War in 17. century. It was restored only in 19. century and has reached a high level that has so far been maintained. Wine lovers can visit innumerable wine cellars and wine bars, such as Lechovice Wine Cellars, Znovín Znojmo or Lahofer wineries, as well as private winemakers producing high quality wines. However, beautiful vineyards can not be missed.
Every year at the beginning of September, the saltiness of wine called Znojmo Historical Wine is held in Znojmo. Znojmo's vintage is a cultural and social action of a supraregional character that symbolizes the celebration of the grape harvest, but it is also focused on the discovery of traditions, history and contemporary culture. Its venue is almost the entire city center, or a large part of the town's monument reserve and its surroundings.
The program is divided into two parts that intersect in time and space. The historic part dominates the festive procession by the city on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. It is made up of three hundred characters in period costumes, and of course horses and a number of attractions. The golden star is a royal couple - Jan Lucemburský and Eliška Přemyslovna. The procession ends with a celebratory scene on the main stage.
Great interest is also on knight tournaments, historical marketplaces with craftsmen and dealers, as well as military campings. There is also a cultural program that culminates on Saturday night with traditional fireworks. An indispensable part of the ZV is also the Jubilee Earth Exhibition Znojmo - the Garden of Moravia and the Economic Exhibition. He does not forget even the spiritual program in the churches of St. Michal and St. Nicholas. An integral part of the Znojmo vintage is the wine program, where wine producers present their products and organize educational tasting and wine tasting.
Cross-cellar in Přímětice
The cellar was built in 18. century Jesuit and is one of the largest cellars in the Republic. The cellar can be visited individually by 1. 1. to 31.8. every Friday from 12 to 14 hours, daily po16. hour via Hotel "N" (after check-in at the reception). For groups with tasting options.
Painted cellar Šatov
The cellar is located in the wine village of Šatov about 12 km from Znojmo. Sandstone walls with paintings represent naive art and were created in 1934-1968 years. A guided tour is possible for at least 5 persons by agreement.
The Blue Cellar is located in the village of Nový Šaldorf, which is within easy reach of the city's public transport to Znojmo. The sandstone cellar is 400 years old and there are corridors long 350 m, 20 m is underground and there are about 60 wine barrels of various ages. The wines in the blue cellar are made from grapes that have matured in the vineyards of Kraví hora and Načeratický hill.
This location is not only significant by offering breathtaking scenery but also archaeological sites. It was inhabited already in the Stone Age. In the late Stone Age, Šobes became an important social and economic site. The River Dyje was an important communication. Already in the Middle Ages, the site was used to grow grapevine. Due to the favorable climatic conditions, the wines from this area are extremely high quality. In the last century it was supplied to the Imperial Court and to the distinguished Viennese restaurants. Nowadays, vineyards are grown in this area on the total area of 11 ha. Most Ruland White and Gray, Riesling and Welsh Riesling are grown here.
