Spilberk castle

Špilberk Castle, the dominant feature of the city, is a large complex of two-story buildings with a tower, surrounded by massive walls with a moat and a bridge. In the large courtyard there is a well with a depth of 112 m.

The carillon was also installed in the large courtyard above the castle well. Their 15 bells play one of 32 different songs every full hour.

 

Vranov nad Dyjí Castle

Vranov nad Dyjí Castle, which is one of the oldest and most important castles in Moravia, was founded in the 11th century by Prince Břetislav. The first written mention of the castle dates from the year 1100. Its oldest preserved building parts were built in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Znojmo Castle

Znojmo Castle, above the Dyjí River, was originally the seat of the Znojmo regional princes of Přemyslovsk. A baroque castle was later built in its area. The castle houses exhibits from the history of Znojmo, a collection of period furniture and ceramics.

Girls' castles

The castle was built in the 13th century, and in the 16th century the castle's fortifications were strengthened in connection with the Turkish invasion of the Danube. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was demolished and burned by the Swedes.

John Castle

Janův hrad is located 2,5 km east of the Lednice castle, on the bank of the river Zámecká Dyje, in the middle of floodplain forests.

It was built between 1807 and 1810 as a Neo-Gothic one-story building with corner towers, imitating a ruin.

 

Lednice

Lednice, which was originally a manor house, passed in 1249 into the property of the noble family of Liechtenstein, who owned it for almost 700 years, until 1945.

The originally Gothic fortress was rebuilt into a Renaissance castle, which was later modified in the Baroque style.

Castle in Bzenec

A Gothic fortress stood in the city, which was later rebuilt into a Renaissance and Baroque castle. In the middle of the 19th century, the Baroque castle was completely demolished, and today's romantic Neo-Gothic castle was built in its place.

Buchlovice Chateau

In the Middle Ages, a medieval fortress stood on the site of today's castle, which was later rebuilt into a farm building. In the 17th century, Buchlov Castle gradually lost its strategic importance and ceased to fulfill the residential function of a noble residence.

Buchlov Castle

Buchlov Castle, one of the oldest royal castles in Moravia, built on the eastern spur of Chřibů, was built in the middle of the 13th century. The castle guarded the trade route leading from the valley of the Morava River to the west.

Chateau Lešná

At the end of the 19th century, a new castle was built on the site of the original empire castle from the beginning of the 19th century, which was demolished. The castle is a very impressive, romantic, detailed building in the historicist style.

Rizoliths, bay windows, towers and turrets emerge from the main, two-story, art nouveau building, creating the silhouette of a romantic, noble residence.

 

Castle in Kroměříž

Kroměříž is a beautiful, historic city and its Archbishop's Castle with the Podzámecká and Květná zahrad were registered as UNESCO monuments. Originally a market settlement, which arose at the intersection of Jantarová and Solná cesty by the Morava River, it was bought by the bishops of Olomouc at the beginning of the 12th century.

Castle in Vizovice

In Vizovice, Zdeněk Říčanský had a Renaissance castle built on the site of a defunct monastery in the second half of the 16th century. In 1746, the Vizovice manor was bought by the later bishop of Hradec Králové, Heřman Hannibal from Blümengen.

Few cities in our country can boast of two castles like Valašské Meziříčí. There is the Žerotín castle and the Kinsky castle. The Žerotín Castle, which is older, stands behind the historic square in Valašské Meziříčí, on a hill above the Rožnovská Bečvá river.

Vsetín castle

The Vsetín Castle stands on Horní náměstí. Originally a Renaissance castle from the beginning of the 17th century, it was rebuilt several times and in the first half of the 19th century it acquired its current classicist form. Vsetín castle is a storeyed, four-winged building with hexagonal corner towers.

Helfštýn Castle

On the southern edge of the Moravian Gate, on the crest of the hill, there is an extensive castle area, Helfštýn Castle, which dominates the entire area. The castle was founded at the end of the 13th century by the Silesian noble Friduš from Linava. Over the following centuries, the castle's fortifications were improved.

Šternberk Castle

The dominant feature of the city is Šternber Castle. The castle, on a long promontory at the foot of Nízké Jeseník, was founded in the middle of the 13th century by a member of an old Bohemian noble family, Zdeslav from Chlumec and from Šternberk. Šternberk Castle guarded the trade route to Poland.

Bouzov

Bouzov Castle, one of our most famous and most beautiful castles, stands majestically in the middle of a charming wooded landscape. Originally a Gothic castle from the 14th century, it served as an imperial fortress and a prison for Swedish prisoners during the Thirty Years' War.

Castle in Duchcov - Excursions and accommodation in the vicinity

The castle in Duchcov stands directly on Republic Square. Duchcovský castle was built in the 17th century by Jan Bedřich of Valdštejn on the site of an older Renaissance Lobkovice mansion. However, the fundamental modification of the baroque castle grounds took place only in the 19th century, when the castle acquired its current classicist appearance. The world-famous adventurer and lover of women Giacomo Casanova lived in the castle.

Házmburk Castle - Excursions and accommodation in the vicinity

Házmburk Castle stands on a basalt hill above the town of Libochovice. The castle has its unmistakable silhouette with the Black and White Towers and is often called the king of the Bohemian Highlands. It was built in the 13th century as a royal castle and originally bore the Czech name Klapý. In 1335, it was acquired by the noble family of Zajíc from Valdek.

Sites
