I wanted to go to the event "Cyklo Fanatik - Plzeň" last year. Unfortunately, my flu was thwarted by the flu. I couldn't miss it this year. In addition, I added a 10-year-old daughter, Kája. As a challenge, we chose the route "Pohodář", which was 42 km long. We both had one thing in common. Neither of us has ever pedaled a mountain bike for more than 30 km. So for us, it was a challenge in the true sense of the word. The event took place on June 22 and the weather forecast was reported under a cloud, around 24 degrees, so it seemed that everything would be ideal. Unfortunately the opposite was true ..

We were supposed to be at the start at 10:00. We arrived around 9:30. We were told that the start did not take place en masse, so the cyclists set out in groups. There seemed to be few people there. But it was just an appearance, because along the way we met clouds of cyclists. We received cards to get a stamp at the "check point" in Horní Bříza and we set off.
1. Stage: hike to Raven
At the beginning only a dirt road, a bit of asphalt, nothing demanding. After passing Sytná, the ascent began. In the end, we found ourselves in front of "Mount Everest", which only trained people can handle . We had to push the wheels out. There were dozens of cyclists, but only two of them climbed whole. They both had hands like me legs
At the Krkavec lookout tower we had a kofola. Kája handled it with an overview. No whining yet ... and Kaja was also fine .. 
2. Stage: From Raven to Check Point Upper Birch
After the Raven we were waiting for the right mountain terrain where mountain paths mixed with dusty roads. It was fine. Meanwhile, I managed to fool myself and dropped a few bigger scoops. As I wrote, I do not get rid of it, I do not know what I can do on mtb and how much I can stand. So it has to be tested. When I charge up, I'll know that I'm not giving it anymore 
Refreshment breaks were regular. ;)
Then drive to Horní Bříza where we went for a stamp. : O) To our great disappointment in the pub they had no food. Still, we had bread in our eggs. He served us well all the way. 
The fight against the weather began from Horní Bříza
The weather had begun to deteriorate in the Upper Birch. The first smaller shower didn't make us decide. The first trouble was my phone where I had a recorded route. The bracket loosened and there was a danger that I would drop the extension with the phone. There are no limits to improvisation. In my backpack I had peroxide and a bandage that if anything. So I take off the bandage and use it as a grip. I tied the phone to the bike frame. It looked "interesting", but it served its purpose. So we move on ...
Another shower started in the middle of nowhere. After 15 minutes more ... Don't worry, the showers are over. The rain started ... No need to say that we had mud everywhere. 
That, of course, didn't deter us. We liked it more. Although I was a little worried about the phone that was tethered to the bike frame. He was given a full dose. In the manual they wrote that he was waterproof, but this was his first test :).
The weather struggle helped us to get to the Krkavec tower relatively quickly and it was time for another kofola and hot dog. Fortunately, the rain stopped and we thought the worst was over. Error again ...

To the finish: ranch Šídlovák
It was already cool from Krkavec. Just a gentle climb, dirt roads and simple mountain trails. The problem was rain. Then it rained somehow. Never mind, jackets have solved it and the phone did it fine. We got to the Bolevec Pond. After a short pause, the last phase was waiting for us to reach the target of the Šidlovák ranch around other ponds. . There we received a diploma and other rewards for a successfully completed route ..
I just pinned the Bicycle Fanatic Badge on my backpack as a trophy and a memory ... A few more of these events and I need a bigger backpack ..
We blamed the fables bravely. Upon arrival home, we were waiting for maintenance. But it was worth it :)

Impressions from the Cyklo fanatik - Plzeň event
Despite the rain and problems with the gps - it was great with the phone. We enjoyed it and now we are planning more events. Next year we plan to go to the category "Enthusiast" (62 km) or maybe "Sporták" (100km). I'll see you. Now we know that everyone, even a recreational cyclist, can handle the basic route, so I hope that we will meet there next year or ride together ..
