Bike tour to America camp at Cheb

If you decide to spend an active holiday in the very west of Bohemia, we have tips for trips in the area and accommodation. One such place is camping America near Františkovy Lázně.  One day in August, we get off the train at Cheb railway station with children and bicycles hung with bicycle bags and set off about 12 km on the way to our "basic" camp, which is to become a camp on the shore of the pond of the same name - America - for the next few days.

From the railway station we drive a beautiful historical center to the River Ohri. We walk through a park where various cultural actions are often taken upstream to the dam of the Skalka reservoir. We are passing by and pleasant asphalt through the natural monument of Komorní Hůrka we are approaching the goal. By the way - Komorní hůrka is our youngest volcano, which was formed 115 - 000 years ago :-) But it doesn't look much like a sopra. It's just a round wooded hill near the main road to Germany. From here it is a few km to our hostel. The pond near which the camp stands is quite dirty from cyanobacteria, which multiply due to the heat, but thank God it is impossible to say about the camp. It is a clean, well-maintained campsite with rich facilities. It is new, modern and offers accommodation in different price ranges depending on the type of accommodation. There are log cabins with their own bathroom. equipment and terrace, small mini cottages and pancakes for the position of a tent or caravan.

We use the roof overhead in the form of a pidichatika at the back of the camp. There are nothing but two bunks against each other and a narrow aisle, so we have to keep the wheels locked in front of her. But it is enough to sleep. Next days, we use the camp's strategic location for many trips, which are also great for families with children.  Which are they? The mini-zoo - the park America is located directly next to the sports grounds camp. Children and adults can find horses, lamas, ducks, snow owls and raccoons here.

If you go further in the direction to Františkovy Lázně, where you can walk about 2 km, you can enjoy not only this beautiful city, but also visit the modern Aquaforum Aquapark. This is really the advantage you will not find so close to other camps. Towards the pond along the pond there is the Nature Reserve America, which has the task of protecting the nest of rare birds on one of the islands of the pond. For this purpose, there is also a covered observatory with explanatory infotainments about local operetta.

On foot or by bike, you can ride the ponds of the nearby Poustka castle, known more as Seeberg. It is beautifully restored with interesting expositions and will certainly surprise you.

Another goal that is easily accessible from Camp America is the Butterfly House in the small village of Žirovice, east of Františkovy Lázně. In a quiet village you can see hundreds of magnificent butterflies in various tropical settings. It's a truly wonderful experience for both children and adults.

After visiting this attraction and buying the necessary souvenirs, you can have a great meal in the nearby village of Nový Drahov in Selský Dvůr. It is also a protected zone with many old half-timbered buildings. And from here it is a short distance to another natural miracle of this area of ​​the Karlovy Vary Region - the SOOS reservation, full of bubbling mud volcanoes and healing springs.

If you are still not tired of the experience, after returning to the Amerika camp, you can “arrive at one of the sports grounds or enjoy a delicious meal in the restaurant at the reception. Despite the fact that this campsite is a short distance from the city, we were surprised by the peace, spa atmosphere and great opportunities for trips around, including those to Germany. By bike, by foot, by train. Really ideal place for families with children or active tourists.
