Trip to the Ratibořice Chateau - Babiččino údolí

When my stay in Janské Lázně finally ended after three weeks, we decided to take another trip on the way home. We said we would go back to our childhood and visit Grandmother's Valley and Ratibořice Chateau, as many years ago on a school trip. We left the car in the Babiččino údolí car park and set off for our destination. In fact, we copied the route of the red tourist sign and first we turned left at the sculpture of Grandmother with grandchildren to get to Starý Bělidl, where the whole story of Grandmother by Božena Němcová took place. It is a classic wooden log house with a shingle roof. And almost within reach, just a few tens of meters away is Viktor's raft. From there we returned to the sculptural group and continued to Rudr's mill and the Water Almond. There we saw an exhibition of period artifacts related to the period in which Němcová planted the whole story.

I was a little taken aback by the miller, who was sitting by the fence all the time and quite, uncomfortably for me, constantly addressed the newcomers and invited them on, just trying to get attention. Because this doesn't suit me very well, we preferred to go along the red light to the Ratibořice chateau, which is not even a kilometer walk.

The castle greenhouse, which we passed along the way, was not exactly maintained, the park was a little better. The princess from the novel Babička, ie Kateřina Zaháňská, lived in the chateau. The history of the chateau dates back to the beginning of the 18th century, during which it was gradually expanded and added. There are two sightseeing tours available to visitors, small and large. Once we were there, we chose a large circuit. This included a tour of the castle interiors, paintings, porcelain and other personal items of the aristocratic owners of the castle.

It was opened in May, and in addition to the Walk of Fame, visitors can see various props, acting awards and other things that the museum received as a gift from the actors. The "father" of the whole idea is the director Tomáš Magnusek. A part of the Acting Museum building is also a restaurant and a guest house, where wellness services are also available.

If a visitor to this area has a little more time than we had, he can walk the 7,5-kilometer-long Babiččino údolí nature trail. It starts at the Barunčina school in Česká Skalica, then leads to Ratibořice and continues to the Rýzmburk gazebo. There is also a moderately demanding cycle route called the Božena Němcová Circuit.
