Greek Chalkidiki - Sithonia, accommodation like my mother

Have you also fallen in love with Greece and like to come back year after year? These lines are intended for those of you who "suffer" from a similar addiction. This time we bring you some tips for a relaxing holiday in Chalkidiki. This peninsula in the north of Greece, whose fingers extend into the Aegean Sea like the fingers of a Poseidon trident, is divided into three parts. The closest to Thessaloniki from where you get here is Kassandra, followed by the middle finger called Sithonia and the last is the monastic state of Athos. And it was Sihonia that became our home for two weeks in August. You may know this peninsula by the names of popular resorts such as sarti, Neos Marmaras or Toroni. However, we went to the small town of Ormos Panagias. Translated as something like the Holy Harbor. Perhaps because daily cruise ships depart from here for cruises around Athos. The settlement of Ormos Panagias is located just outside the city of Nikiti, just behind the narrowest point where Sithonia merges with the mainland. You are here from Thessaloniki Airport in an hour, and even if the motorway ends at Kassandra, you don't have to worry about travel. If you do not want to rent a car at the airport, you can arrange with the guest house where you will live, they will be happy to send someone for you and transport you to the accommodation for a reasonable price. Usually it is a cousin, relative or acquaintance of the owner of the accommodation. The kinship and neighborhood community simply works in Greece.

Chalkidiki beachOrmost Panagias is a village nestled around a protected bay, a short distance from the main ring road around Sithonia. Thanks to that, there is peace and with the exception of departures of cruise ships to Athos, there is a sleepy peace. In Ormos itself there is only the basic infrastructure for tourists and residents. One mini market, a souvenir shop, a few taverns. By the way, some businesses right by the sea are really very good. The blue and white tables and chairs stand on the sand next to the fishing boats and the sea almost washes your feet. There is also a nice bakery just off the main road to Nikiti. It is still baked here, just like elsewhere in Greece, I will take good care of it. You can tell that these are not baked frozen semi-finished products not only by the fact that they put bags of flour in front of the bakery, but mainly by their taste. After all, I admire this in Greece. A small village, a bakery by the district road, as well as locals and tourists to stop there and treat themselves to sweets or fresh pastries. In the Czech Republic, even in cities of several thousand, we have to be satisfied only with semi-finished products from large-scale factories. If you would like to make a larger purchase, go to approx. 5 km distant Nikiti. The first shop by the road is Lidl and a little further on, this time domestic supermarkets.

But the reason we chose this chapel of Chalkidiki is far more prosaic. On booking.com we found great accommodation. It is located about a kilometer from Ormos, but it is between gardens and an olive grove and most importantly - a short walk from the beautiful Livrochio beach. The locals also call her Trani Ammoudia. From our guest house Evangelia Family House it is to the beach a short distance along the gravel road between the local cottages and a few guesthouses. He is not actually a small guest house, but an honest three-storey apartment house, so if you are planning a holiday with friends or family, you can live together in one house. The rooms are modernly furnished after a recent renovation and there is nothing significant. Of course, as elsewhere in Greece, don't expect a large bathroom with a bathtub or a corner kitchen unit. But you do not come here to cook and you will swim in the clear sea. Each room has a spacious balcony where you can spend evenings with Retsina, Kart and Ouza. There is a grassy lawn around the house on which you can let toddlers down without any worries, and for the bigger ones there are a few swings behind it and a slide.

The owners of Evangelia & Dimitris are exactly as you would imagine hospitable Greeks. They speak decent English with such a typical soft accent and will do for you what they see in front of your eyes. And if you go with children, you have won. They just love kids. If they are quiet for a while and are not currently accepting newly accommodated guests, they will advise you on where to eat well or where to get cheap cruise tickets. To this day, we write to them via social networks and we have repeated our stay several times. This is one of the reasons why they are comfortable and how they take care of the guests, they are still full during the season and it pays to book your stay in advance.

Accommodation in Ormos Panagiaas in Sithonia is definitely suitable for families with children and for those who have enough crowded resorts and screaming Czechs, Russians or other nationalities. Even on the beach there is peace - one, two bars, some umbrellas, otherwise only sand, where you can go anywhere you like. Besides, what fascinates us here is that although the beach is about 2 kilometers long, there is no belt built with any hotels or other tourist infrastructure. For those of you who are able to get here by their own car, or get cheap tickets to Thessaloniki and transfer from the airport, this will become the heart spot. Because of the sea, the calm, the views of Mount Athos and especially the cool people.
