What comes to mind when you say so Hungary and Lake Balaton ? Peppers, melons, warm water and a relaxing holiday? Yes, even after our last stay in a camp on the shores of the "Hungarian Sea". It is necessary to add that before this holiday we passed through Hungary only on trips to Greece, so I only remember refueling on the highway, incomprehensible speech and fields of corn. This time, however, we went to get to know her more thoroughly and chose Vádvirág campsite near the town of Balatonszemes. I don't even know what led us to it. Perhaps the fact that at first glance it was close to the motorway exit and was not in the middle of the tourist area as campsites in the area of Fonyód, Balatonfüred and other tourist destinations. The road from us from Karlovy Vary measures about 700 km, almost the whole leads along the highway and so it passes pleasantly. Compared to the distance to Greece, a complete "brnkačka". Camping Vádvirág is located between Balatonszemes and a busy resort Balatonlelle, a short walk from the coastal road No. 7 and the railway line.
Upon arrival, we park in front of the camp gates and go to ask at the reception for the place, because we are worried that it will be full. We are worried about the understanding, but they take it for granted, because the office is full of young workers who speak perfect English. And what is the best place is said to be enough! We get a map of the camp, in which the boys from the reception drew areas suitable for camping, and it's up to us. We'll drive after a while large area and finally we find the perfect place. There are enough places for camping, but it is necessary to follow the map, because some plots have different colored numbers and are intended for caravans or caravans. Most of the plots are located among mature trees, so even in the steamy August weather you can find a cool shade. AND the surface is flat and soft enough so that hammering pins is no problem. The only thing you have to regret in the full season is that you will not have a tent or apartment right on the shores of Lake Balaton. These places are already occupied by the locals long in advance, so we have to accept that we will have to walk the 100 m to the water. And what about other amenities? So let's take it pretty well from the gate. By the way, the gate closes after 22 hours and will let you in with a car during the day, only if you have a ticket from the reception confirming your stay outside the window. Behind the gate and reception is small grocery store and all sorts of needs. It can be used to buy vegetables, fresh pastries and other delicacies, including cheap wine, and is quite well stocked. If you want to make a bigger and cheaper purchase, get in the car and drive to a few km distant Balatonakali, where it is ALDI and Lidl. Behind the shop begins a zone of cottages and houses for rent, which stretches to the middle of the camp. On the way through the area to the place for camping you will find refreshments, one restaurant and a bathroom with toilet, place for washing dishes and showers. Shared refrigerators are also here, but the mission is to pay extra, so if you have your own cooling box, I recommend taking it to the tent. The distance from the end of the camp to the reception is several hundred meters, so many small caparts, but also adults have bikes or scooters. And if you are interested, you can rent at the campsite pedal cars, on which you and your children will literally get rid of it.
Due to the size of the camp, you can also choose a place to swim. You can either enter the warm waters of Lake Balaton directly from the steps in front of the residential part of the campsite, or go to the beach further to the right. Depths you do not have to worry in this part of Lake Balaton. Before you have water over your shoulders, this is a few hundred meters away. But it is water beautifully warmed, clean and you don't have to worry about the children reaching the bottom. There are no reeds or seaweed and there is a nice fine sand underfoot. The part at the official beach has carefully cut lawn, there are play elements for children and the Balatontourist animation teams organize entertainment programs for children. You will also find here smaller pool. You will definitely not swim in it, but it is enough for children to have fun and it is not even crowded in the evening. We were very pleasantly surprised that after ten in the evening the camp is quiet.
This camp is just like that made for family vacation. You will not really enjoy the discos and nightlife in it due to the remoteness.
All you have to get used to are trains. They drive on a double-track line just behind the fence and the road and sometimes they wake you up. After a few days, we didn't notice them anymore. After all, the railway runs around the whole of Lake Balaton, so all campsites are the same distance. And a few tips in conclusion? If you want to be on a quieter beach I can camp, just come out of the gate and go to the coast approx. 300 m. Here is a municipal beach with a playground and benches and plenty of parking space. Not far from it is the András Büfé snack bar, where they make excellent fish and not far from a pizzeria. Camping Vádvirág is simply ideal for anyone who does not want to spend for an overpriced camp in a tourist resort and likes peace and relaxing swimming. This campsite belongs to the company's network Balaton Tourist, which runs about 10 more campsites around the lake. However, the prices in them, even though they belong to one company, are quite different. This is among the cheapest and stay for two adults, two children, a car, a large family tent incl. electricity cost for 10 nights approx. 7000 CZK.
