Camp Medveja is located at the beginning of Istria, so it was a clear choice in our exploration of Istria this year. In addition, the camp is situated almost by the sea and is also in a small village, which is not so crowded with foreign tourists. Nevertheless, it is a big camp, which at the beginning of the summer season (we were there on 28th and 29.6th June) was not full at all, so we properly enjoyed the two-day stay in this nice camp.
Camping near the beach
The very first impression of the Medveja camp was pleasant, because you can walk to the beach in five minutes from the camp . The only disturbing element was the fact that from the campsite to the beach you have to cross the main road, which is very heavy traffic. After crossing the road (fortunately there is a pedestrian crossing, so you do not wait too long before crossing the road) so you will find yourself on the beach ..
Nice beach at the campsite
Medveja beach fascinated me quite a bit, it is a kilometer long beach made of small pebbles and pebbles. From every part of the beach there is a gradual access to the sea, which I will always appreciate. In addition, the beach is very well equipped, there are sunbeds, umbrellas, pedal boats, kayaks, parasaling, bars, restaurants and a playground for children. There are also showers on the beach. I noticed that there is also a ramp for the disabled on the beach.
Accommodation in the camp and prices
The equipment of the camp was quite fine. The camp is very large and is situated below the majestic Učka Mountains. Directly above the camp are amazing hills covered with forests and rocks. The bathrooms were modern and perfectly clean and everything was fine. Part of the camp are also bungalows and apartments, but we had with us stanso we slept under a tent, which suits us perfectly. There are also available in the camp places for caravans and mobile homes, which is a matter of course in such a camp. However, the places for tents are in different price levels, which will be clearly explained to you at the reception, where you can speak English and German without any problems. I was pleasantly surprised by the price, because for 2 nights for two people, a tent and a car, we paid 1470 crowns in Czech crowns. However, it should be noted that we chose the cheapest zone for tents.
Ubiquitous trees
At the camp I appreciated the trees the most, which are really priceless on hot days. It serves not only as a pleasant and beneficial shade, but also for practical things, because we stretched a clothesline between a tree and a car and dried a swimsuit and towels on the clothesline. Well, even in small things, one must be able to rejoice. Also, the view of the mature trees that rise on the rocks above the campsite is stunning. These are mainly laurels, but also beeches and edible chestnuts.
Shops and restaurants in the camp
Right next to the camp (about 200 meters) is the Konzum store, which is well stocked and which we used very often, because we cooked ourselves in the camp . They also take cards, so you don't have to bring euros or Croatian kunas with you, the same applies to paying at the reception at the campsite or in the adjacent restaurant. Right next to the camp is a decent and spacious restaurant where you can go for a beer or dinner. The restaurant is aptly named Medvejica and you can sit outside under the shelters and watch large color plasma TVs while eating. Otherwise, they have a bottle of eleven-degree beer Ožujsko and a classic selection of Balkan restaurants, which consists of proven seafood, pizza or čevapčiči.
Tips for walks around the camp
We walked a lot, so the first tip is an easy walk in the immediate vicinity of the camp. Follow the marked hiking trail around the wire fence, which starts right next to the campsite. It is a trail under the shadows of the trees of the surrounding forest, which thrive wildly in the surrounding rocks. The trail will take you to the very end of the camp and through the back gate you will walk through the whole camp. There are a lot of bay leaf bushes on the trail itself, so along the way we collected the bay leaf in a plastic bag and we brought the bay leaf leaves home as a souvenir. The second walk, which I highly recommend, leads along the asphalt road above the village of Medveja and will take you to to the restaurant Konoba, from where there is a fascinating view of the beautiful azure Adriatic Sea. From the camp to the restaurant Konoba, it is about a kilometer and a half a steep hike up the hill .. After walks it was time for a snack .. :)
Morning running training - it pays off
Early in the morning we completed the morning training run. We ran about five kilometers around a busy main road. Since it was early in the morning, we met only five or six vehicles on the road. It is also not so hot early in the morning and the road runs well, in addition you have really adorable views of the sea. Another advantage of the morning run is that after jogging you can immediately swim in the sea and the beach is completely guaranteed for yourself. I can only confirm this, because I was really the only one on the beach, so you also have sunbeds fully available and also free.
Resorts around Medveje
Medveja is only a camp and a beach (the village of Medveja has only 180 permanent residents) and all around, especially beautiful nature, which suits me perfectly. However, if you want a busier civilization, you must go to the resort of Lovran (3 kilometers away) or the spa Opatija (8 kilometers away). In both mentioned resorts you will already find a large number of souvenir shops, restaurants, bars and cafes.
Advantages of camping
• very affordable campsite
• The bathroom is great and clean
• beautiful surrounding nature
• close to the sea
• There is a supermarket nearby
• Lots of trees and greenery
Disadvantages of camping
• The sea and the campsite are crossed by a busy road
• absence of sports fields
• absence of kitchenette (but this does not apply to bungalows and apartments)
