I visited the Marina-Camp Elbe campsite on my bike tour around the river Elbe. Gradually, I will now introduce you to other campsites that I have visited on this cycling fair. These are mostly campsites in Saxony or Saxony-Anhalt, which were in the German Democratic Republic at the time of totalitarianism. However, a lot has changed since 1989 and most of Saxony's campsites are now modern and can withstand full comparisons with campsites in what was then West Germany.
Location of the campsite
Camping Marina-Camp Elbe is located directly on the river Elbe, which suggests the name of the camp Elbe, which is the German Elbe. The camp is located in the historic German town of Lutherstadt Wittenberg, a beautiful town associated with the famous German reformer Martin Luther. My first impressions of the campsite were very pleasant, as the view from the campsite on the historic Wittenberg fascinates them. It's like going back in time. From the camp you can see silhouettes of beautiful towers of Gothic temples and monasteries. This view is never looked at. Otherwise, I set up my tent near the toilets and showers, so I didn't have to go far. It is always a compromise. If you set up a tent at a sanitary facility, you don't have to go far, but you have a constant rumble and a lot of movement of people around the tent. However, one night can be endured and survived in this way.
Description camp
Camping Marina-Camp Elbe is definitely a modern camp that looks luxurious and orderly. The bathrooms are spacious and very clean. The equipment is top notch. However, all this is the first sight that will spoil you a bit, when you find out that the sanitary facilities are sometimes open, then closed again. The lights are often off in the evening, which is also not very pleasant. At 22 pm, the sanitary facilities are completely closed. The gate at the reception then closes at 18:00 (which is quite early for the camp), later entry into the camp is not possible at all, the car remains parked in front of the gate in complete isolation. There is room for about 100 tents for tents.
Well situated camp near the Elbe cycle path
For cyclists, however, it is a well-situated camp. There is a good connection to the Elbe cycle path and you are about fifteen minutes from the camp by bike in the center of Wittenberg. For those who want to visit and explore historic Wittenberg in detail, this is a good campsite choice.
Historic Wittenberg
When you are at Marina-Camp Elbe, be sure to visit Wittenberg, the site of the famous church reformer Martin Luther. Wittenberg is also a center of neat architecture and a large number of cafes, large and small. Building number one is the impressive Church of All Saints. At the door of this temple, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses that went down in history. By this act, the church reformation began. You can read and take pictures of all 95 theses on the outer walls of the church yourself. It is also worth a visit to the picturesque Markt Square with a dignified-looking Renaissance town hall, which must not miss the monuments of Martin Luther and another reformer Melanchton, who was Luther's friend. Also, don't forget to look at the house of the famous German painter Lucas Cranach, who worked in the city for a long time. And then, for a reward, have a local coffee and take a relaxing break. There are countless cafes with pleasant seating.
Sports and recreational activities
You can use a beach volleyball court in the camp area. There is also a pier with berths for boats. There is a large outdoor chessboard on one of the grassy areas, so you can play chess here in the open air. The campsite has a bicycle rental and an outdoor gym. There is an outdoor and indoor pool about seven kilometers from the camp. The nearest grocery store is two and a half kilometers away. Apart from the offer of fresh rolls, there are no shopping options or any snacks or restaurants or a pub.
