Another campsite that I visited on my cycling trip around the river Elbe was the German camp Waldcamping Pirna-Copit, which is situated near the beautiful Saxon historic town of Pirna.

Camping location

Waldcamping Pirna-Copit is about four kilometers from the city center. You can get to the campsite by crossing the main bridge over the Elbe along the main Elbe cycle path and connecting to the city's cycle path, which will take you directly to the campsite, which is by the main road. The camp is a natural lake Natursee, which has two natural beaches. wink

Camping equipment excellent

The sanitary facilities in the camp are modern and spacious and are carefully cleaned daily. Despite the size of the place, there is a pleasant calm, even from the surrounding streets you do not hear too much bustle. There are large enough playgrounds in the camp area. Children also have a special playground with climbing frames. The trees, which provide sufficient shade from the hot sun, are very pleasant here. Lake Natursee however, it was constantly under siege by the ducks, so you have to be careful where you step on the shore smiley. The camp is otherwise suitable for camping and staying with a caravan. In addition, you can stay here in wooden bungalows. All mobile homes have a living area of 32 square meters and offer space for up to four people.

Wooden sheds for food

At the Waldcamping Pirna-Copit campsite, I also appreciated the practical wooden benches with a table and a roof, where you can eat food or just relax, even if it drizzles a little or rains a bit.

Shops and snacks

There is no shop or restaurant on the campsite, but there is a Jet petrol station about 19 meters from the campsite. Right behind the pump is also the Netto Marken Discount grocery supermarket, where there is a large selection of food, fresh pastries and toiletries. In addition, there is a fast food restaurant Korch Fachfleischerei, which is open from XNUMX am to XNUMX pm. Yes

Convenient location of the camp for trips

In addition to a gas station, shop and fast food, the camp is conveniently located for excursions. Here you can cycle to Dresden, Meissen or Saxon / Bohemian Switzerland or the center of the historic city of Pirna.

The historic town of Pirna

The beautiful town of Pirna is definitely worth a visit. I have been there a total of twice and I can especially recommend a visit to the castle and the main square. The main square boasts a beautiful town hall, which has preserved Gothic portals. Not far from the square is the baroque evangelical church of St. Mary, which is open every day. In the church you can admire especially the beautiful ceilings, which still have a Gothic origin. After a tour of the church you can go to the castle Sonnestein, which sits magnificently on the hill. Sonnenstein Castle is especially interesting for its rich and varied history. Thanks to its very good strategic location on the rock above the Elbe, it served for many centuries as a massive fortress and carefully guarded the trade route from the Czech lands to German Saxony. The castle was a fortress until 1746. Then the fortress became a castle. At the beginning of the 19th century, the chateau underwent a major transformation into the first German medical institute for the mentally ill. During the Second World War, a large number of people lost their lives here, mostly mentally ill patients. The museum commemorates this brutal part of history in a part of the chateau today. The castle also has a beautiful view of the city and the river Elbe.
