It was enough to drive less than forty kilometers from Janské Lázně to the southwest to get to the parking lot of Pecka Castle during the next free afternoon. According to the information available on his website, he is the only interior accessible the object of the Central Podkrkonoší and the Giant Mountains. From the parking lot, which by the way is one of the few free, the castle can be reached within a few minutes.

The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1322. The castle gradually expanded, so that at the beginning of the 17th century it looked like a magnificent mansion with four residential palaces. After the castle was acquired by members of the Carthusian order in Valdice near Jičín, who used it for more than 150 years only as a summer residence, the castle began to fall into disrepair. The destruction was completed by a large fire in 1830. In 1921, the ruins were acquired by the municipality of Pecka and the building was gradually very slowly reconstructed. The first sightseeing route was opened in 1968 and the second route in 2012.

The basic tour includes a tour of the castle rooms, where the history of the castle and the town of Peck is presented, as well as a large knight's hall and a black kitchen with a functional orchestra. This is actually put into operation by the guide during the tour. Equally interesting is the second circuit called Harantovské sklepy. There we had the opportunity to see how the building was supplied at that time, how food was stored, food was prepared and also how hygiene was carried out. Furthermore, pantries, wine and beer cellar. Well, to make matters worse, a tour of the medieval torture chamber is also included.

From the castle galleries there is a beautiful view of almost the entire Giant Mountains. And if you still feel like a longer walk, you can go from the Pecka castle following the yellow sign to the Krkonoše lookout, which lies at an altitude of 531 meters. This road is about four kilometers long, leads through a beautiful landscape and is definitely worth the breathtaking view that you will have at your disposal. You can get back to the Pecka castle by following the blue tourist sign after about two kilometers.
