Going under tent or camping? Is your old sleeping bag the best behind it? Do you want to buy a new one, but do not know what to choose? We have prepared for you a short article about the choice of sleeping bags and all important parameters. Before you start making your choice, you need to find out exactly what you will be using the sleeping bag for. Sure, to sleep… But in what conditions? In summer or in winter? Will you wear it on your back or drive it in a car? You have to think about all this in advance.

The first thing to decide is type of sleeping bag. It depends on the temperature at which you will use it. There are three variants on the market - summer, winter and three-season. Summer sleeping bags are designed for temperatures higher than +10 ° C. So they are ideal for summer, but you would be cold in them in spring and autumn. If you like to travel from spring to autumn, you will use the Three-Season Sleeping Bag. It will sufficiently protect you from the winter a few degrees below zero. The third variant is winter sleeping bags, in which you can warm up sufficiently even in extreme conditions of -25 ° C..

Another essential parameter is material. You can basically choose from two options - feathers and synthetics. There are many types of systolic fibers, which differ in their insulating abilities. Synthetic fibers are more suitable for allergy sufferers, for whom many feathers would cause problems. Another advantage is easy maintenance and resistance to moisture. On the other hand, they are bulkier and heavier than feather sleeping bags. They are therefore more suitable for camping and longer stays in one place. In addition, their purchase price is significantly lower. Feather sleeping bags are characterized by long life, low weight and small volume. They are therefore an ideal solution for hiking. In addition, they are more heating and have better insulating properties. The disadvantage, however, is the low resistance to moisture, as well as the higher purchase price. Yes

When selecting shape you will have a choice of three variants - blanket, mummy and oval. The blanket shape is rectangular and suitable for higher temperatures, heating takes a little longer. Moreover, it does not cover your head, which might bother you during a cooler night. The advantage is the possibility to open it and use it as a blanket. Mummy shape covers the head. In addition, its shape follows the curves of the human body, making it tighter and warms up better. A certain compromise between the two is the oval shape. It is not as tight as a mummy, but it surrounds the body a little tighter than a blanket sleeping bag. Compared to it, the oval variant will warm up faster, but you will still have enough freedom while sleeping.

Some manufacturers offer sleeping bags in various sizes and designs. The specialty is female sleeping bags, which are smaller and more insulated in the hip area and moreover often have better insulated legs. Children's sleeping bags are then smaller, sometimes in a growing variant.

In general, however, it should be said that the sleeping bag should always be a 15 to 20 cm longer than its owner. This ensures thermal but at the same time plenty of space. Look for the size in the label, either length or S-XL should always be given ... cheeky
