I started riding my mountain bike again last year, but I knew right away that forests and nature are the right thing for me. I started with a middle class bike on Focus Whistler. After a few months I get a carbon toy Focus Raven 8.6. Many bikers are confused about which bike to choose and let themselves be influenced by friends, which is often the biggest mistake. Therefore, I decided to write a comparison of two wheels of the same brand, which differ at least one class. Perhaps it inspires others to choose a new bike for the average cyclist, which is really tailored ...
How to choose the right bike?
I started my MTB "career" on Focus Whistler, which is a standard mid-range mountain bike. Lecos components can withstand, modern design, designed for dirt roads, terrains with bumps, bumps and roots, but no extreme. For trips or trips with the family is quite sufficient .. However, after a short time I longed for more comfort. And now comes a lot of information and opinions from friends we all know. Everyone has an opinion, but most talk about their needs and they reflect on their advice for you, which is very unfortunate ..

My version;)
I've been looking for carbon wheels for some time. Friends (who did not have carbon) had their strong opinion that carbon is bad, that it breaks, or springs under the butt and the like. On Whistler I had 3x9 transfers. Newer versions pedaled to 1x12. Here again, the friends held their opinions that 1x12 is bad, only for active athletes and that I can not. All this information could not be further from the truth. I'll explain in a moment ...
I climb up to the lookout tower ..: D
So let's compare both wheels and the advantages and disadvantages of the Focus Whistler VS Raven
3x9 VS 1x12 gears
Let me say straight away that 3x9 is a commercial relic that is inefficient and in addition increases the risk of the chain falling. 1x12 is more comfortable and with such gears it will tighten both recreational cyclist and athlete. Straight ... unless you pull a hill to 1x12, certainly not even 3x9. It's just in you, not in transfers. So my friends were next to the fir tree.
Aluminum VS carbon
Carbon springs, yes, but only from top to bottom and on heavier terrain (downhill) it acts as another suspension, except for the fork and legs. So I am faster and the wheel does not crumble. The comfort and enjoyment of the ride or downhill is not comparable. Carbon clearly leads. In addition, rumors about frangibility may be true, but not with Focus, which is a quality, proven German brand.
Frame and geometry
So there is nothing to write. Just that the Carbon Raven 8.6 has a sports geometry that you can see on the racing wheels. So that makes the bike more vivid, playful and agile in the terrain, and I feel like I'm flying. But only metaphorically .. 2,5 kg less weight of the bike has something to talk about .. :)
Price VS comfort and "wheel life"
Focus Whistler can be purchased for something between 21.000.- to 26.000.-. Focus Raven in the price of around 43.000.-, in an ideal situation the price can drop below 40.000.-, which does not happen much for the surrounded Scotts, even though they are worse equipped than the German Focusy Raven ... The price difference between Focusy is about 15.000. -, which means that the bike on the carbon frame is more expensive in terms of purchase price. However, it will come back to you in the form of better quality components, better enjoyment and comfort from riding on this handsome man.
So as you can see, the carbon Focus Raven 8.6 is a clear winner for both sports bikers and recreational cyclists. As the saying goes, we are not rich enough to buy cheap things and there will be something to it. Comfort, durability of components, VS price is in an ideal ratio.

Raven is a ride with all the trimmings :)
Higher version of Focus raven 8.7, but on the same frame as Focus 8.6, but with better components
So what does that mean? Don't get advice from your friends. Or if you do, then go to the store and try the selected bike. And when I say try it, I don't mean driving on the asphalt around the store, because only in the field you know the differences.
Why did I choose version 8.6?
The reason was simple. The frame is the same as on the higher versions (8.7 and 8.8), but the price is much lower. And those colors, matt black on carbon with white accessories in a sporty design looks damn dense. And obviously I don't think so, because when I park it somewhere, both teenagers and gentlemen aged 60+ come to see me and admire my fable. Great design is like the character of a woman who promises. But the difference between a bicycle and a woman is that a female character can mislead and lie. Sporty shapes from a quality brand like Focus don't ...
