My friend David suggested to me if I want to go with him to the Bohemian Forest when I like the hills. I wonder why not, what kind of hills can be there. According to the route it looked simple .. The plan was a route that started in Železná Ruda, direction Poledník lookout and then to glacial lake Laka. But on the map it looks different than in real .. I'll pack up things and get ready for getting up in the morning. Alarm clock in 6: 00. The morning warm-up was fine, which reminded me that it would take stronger gloves. We met at the pump and then on the train. Bicycle seats were no longer available, but we managed to stuff the bikes into the train.
There were vacancies along the way. :)
When we arrived in Železná Ruda, we headed for coffee. Enjoying the sky without clouds, we talk about the route ahead. David kept reminding himself that it wouldn't be a buzz, but I didn't pay attention to it ...
Our route looked interesting. By that time I started to realize that we will go practically only uphill ..: D (download route here)
While David was stealing the map, I fooled around a bit. The energy was giving away this morning ...
On the way to David, I show you how to get on the bike ...
A few kilometers to warm up. The sun was already drifting and we were getting hot. So we stopped in the meadow, changed our clothes and refreshed.
Dave got a bit hard with the bike .. :))
And I tried to sailing ..: O)
Then the fun ended and the real pedaling started - the direction of the Poledník lookout tower. That was the magical place David had warned me about. We started a direct ascent and David says: "a good hill, isn't it? And now it's only going to increase on 7 kilometers".
So many miles in motion and I was expected to walk without a break. In the end, I did it. It was no walk in the rose garden for David either. It underlined more facts. Upstairs we met clouds of cyclists, but we didn't see anyone stepping up. The hill had at least a 10-degree climb and in some places 12-13 degrees. Those were the moments when I thought I would give up and push, but in the end it gave in. In addition, along the way, a walking lady asked me that where I have a flashlight, then I answer: "I'm a flashlight !!". : D On the way up we met only one type of bike and that ... electric bikes. I wondered at times if David and I were any exceptions. Like stepping on such a mess and without another drive, it's not worn much :) Or is it? : D After 7 kilometers and 2 kilos lighter I reach Poledník. I left David about 500 meters behind me. I surpassed my personal person by 200%. Tired but happy I sit on the grass and regenerate ...
Even David could climb ... :)
His snacks were lime, garlic and other crap for girls :)
My equipment looked like this: Protein with grape sugar, cafe, soft beer, banana, coconut bar, kofola, clear water and some lard in sausage form did not hurt me either ... And in my backpack I had 10 pieces of bread in an egg .. :)
Memorial photo at Poledník lookout tower in Sumava had to be.. :). Here are a lot of places to visit. Next time we'll be back for a few days, but already with accommodation directly in the Bohemian Forest..
After a rest of about 45 minutes we set out on a journey. First stage: exit from Poledník. When we drove it, I didn't believe in my own eyes that I had trampled it at all ... But one thing is for sure. We will definitely go back there ..
The next stage was to change the hike to the lake of glacial origin Laka. It was "only 6 km" uphill. To make a change. In the first phase, I thought I would not give this second round, but after 2 kilometers I stopped thinking and I just worked ... .. To see how far apart the Polednik Lookout Tower and Lake Laka I attach a photo I took in the middle of the ascent .. The misty point in the distance is the Polednik Lookout ...
. After another kilos thrown we arrive at Lake Laka .. . Exhaustion was apparent on both. However, the joy of the goal was greater ...
10-15 minutes of rest were enough. Then we were pedaling to Železná Ruda. Of course, half the way was different than the UP ... After climbing the last hill we rest. I think I can see a slight fatigue.
When he arrived at the train in Železná Ruda, David could not wait for the train, so he tried to stop one early. He didn't mind the passing express train going in the opposite direction.
Focuses on Šumava & how it turned out
Ujeto: 58 km (+ more 4km uphill from train home)
Total time: 4: 14 hr.
Average speed: 13,7 km
Difficulty level: medium heavy
Impressions from the trip: Železná Ruda - Poledník lookout tower - Laka lake
David and I had new laps, both Focuses, so the ride was also a test. The bikes have been successful, but it was a challenge for us. I definitely do not recommend this route to families with children. Unless your children are actively doing sports, because pedaling in the first stage of 7 km with a min. 10 step elevation, then in the next stage 6km 8-10 step elevation and in the final last hill of about 3 km, it is definitely not for recreational cyclists .. However ..
