The Kamenný rybník reserve is a popular destination for all hikers, cyclists and families with children, not only because of its location within the city of Pilsen, but also because of its accessibility. Botanists' interest in this area dates back to the second half of the 19th century. The beginnings of the protection of the so-called primeval forest at Kamenné rybník date back to 1900, when the botanist F. Maloch - the city of Pilsen - requested it. Since 1913 J. Sigmond (Sigmond's path) excluded the area from normal forest management, from 1930 it was protected as a natural monument at the suggestion of D. Šašek.
In 1953, the unique growths and flora in the peatland above Kamenný rybník were declared a nature reserve in Pilsen. blast furnaces.
The peatland was formed from a shallow floodplain of small tributaries of the later Kamenné rybník from the west and north with several springs. According to Kriesl, it was created in the geological period of the sub-Atlantic about 2000 years ago, analyzes of pollen in the lower layers have shown the presence of pine and rarely also fir. The peat deposit is about 120 cm thick. Some plants typical for peatlands and their communities with characteristic animal species have been preserved here.
