Camping Village Torre Pendente - Holidays in Tuscany, Pisa

All articles_button

Another Italian campsite we visited on our trip to Italy this year was Camping Village Torre Pendente. It was an urban campsite in the Tuscan city of Pisa, which is famous for its Leaning Tower and other wonderful sacral monuments that are on the prestigious Unesco World Heritage List. The campsite was located not far from the historic center of Pisa. We received a map of the city right at the campsite reception and it was explained to us where to go from the campsite to the city. It was about a 15-minute leisurely walk. In addition, there was a large supermarket from town to town where you could buy everything you needed to eat. There was also a very helpful staff at the reception who spoke very good English.

A lot of historical monuments in the vicinity of the camp

Camping Village Torre Pendente bets mainly on world-famous monuments that are really close to the campsite. In addition to the famous Pisa, there is also nearby the beautiful historic city of Lucca, which is one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany. For this reason, we stayed at the campsite for two nights in order to thoroughly enjoy both beautiful historical cities. wink

Accommodation in camp

The camp had solid sanitary facilities. Everything was clean and fully functional. Very unusual was the board in the toilets, which automatically rose up after the toilet cheeky. There were illustrative pictograms on all toilets, which were supplemented with Italian and English text. Other camping equipment was already standard. The camp had enough toilets, showers, cabins for washing dishes and cabins for washing machines. There were several standing outside stone grills. They are standard in the campsite areas for tents and caravans, since there were not many trees, a green tarp was stretched over each area, which cast a shadow on the tent site. However, it should be noted that the shade under mature trees is much better. Furthermore, the camp offered accommodation in small beds nice cabins (mobile homes and equipped cabins/bungalows). The price of accommodation was EUR 39 for one night for two people, including tent and car.

Sports in the camp

The campsite had a swimming pool with numerous sunbeds and umbrellas. Right by the pool was a bar and cafe in one. Behind the pool was a children's playground with plastic climbing frames and a wooden swing and slide. There was also a beach volleyball court, table tennis and table football. Yes

Snacks and meals

The campsite had a very well stocked supermarket and a nice pizzeria Ristorante, which of course had a sign with a picture of a leaning tower wink. There are notice boards at the reception where you can find a detailed map of Pisa, as well as other tourist attractions about the city and its surroundings. The entrance to the campsite is adorned by a beautifully tall palm tree.

Tips for trips around the camp

The main draw was, of course, a tour of the Unesco monuments. You will see the most beautiful sights at Square of Miracles, which in Czech is called Náměstí Zázraků cool. Here you will see the leaning tower, the beautiful Cathedral, the baptistery and the cemetery. All the crystal white buildings are part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. If you want to know where the entrance fee is paid, know that everywhere except the Cathedral. You can visit it for free, but you must first register at the ticket office and then you can visit with a ticket and the exact time Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which is an impressive five-nave Romanesque basilica with a triple transept. Other monuments are already paid for, but are worth a visit, especially the baptistery is a magnificent large baptismal chapel, which is the largest in Italy. The diameter of the chapel measures 30,5 meters and the height of the dome is a respectable 54,5 meters. Torre Pendente or Leaning Tower is then the cherry on the cake of the whole of Pisa. The tower began to tilt already in the 14th century. Perhaps it would fall, but it is currently secured with strong ropes against further tilting. Its deviation from the vertical axis is 5 meters, which is really a lot. There is also the biggest fuss around the tower, because everyone takes pictures here and wants to be immortalized by the tower in such a way that in the photo it looks as if they are actually supporting the leaning tower. smiley
