Český Krumlov or when you are running into the boots in the theater

During our second holiday in South Bohemia, we used the services again pension Pod Skalkou, which we liked. This way to Cesky Krumlov was planned long in advance, because we had already bought tickets for the Three Musketeers in the autumn of the previous year, a performance that was to be performed in a controversial revolving auditorium in the garden Krumlov Castle. UNESCO representatives might want to remove it, but so far it has, I suspect, permission to stay where it is until 2020.

In the afternoon before the performance, we used to walk through the pedestrian zone of the historic part of town. Which, among us, is not very pleasant during the summer months. You have to have quite sharp elbows so that the crowd doesn't take you where you don't want to. For example, to the wax museum, where we really didn't want to go. But we persevered and with a mass of tourists, mostly Asian, we were "brought" to the entrance to the castle.

The first mention of the chateau dates back to the years 1240 - 1242, when it, still as a castle, was owned by the lords of Krumlov, who died out at the beginning of the 14th century and were inherited by the Rosenbergs, who owned it until the beginning of the seventeenth century. Rudolf II bought it from them. Habsburg. It was then owned by the Eggenbergs and Schwarzenbergs, who were confiscated in 1947. In 1992, the entire historical complex of Český Krumlov was inscribed on the prestigious UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. That is also why it is very popular. And that's how it bothers the natives. And I'm not even surprised.

There are two sightseeing routes and three other expositions available to visitors of the chateau complex. But because we saw the interior of the castle during our last visit, we preferred to go for a walk in the castle park, where we did not expect such an onslaught of sightseeing visitors. A walk through the garden is really worth it and should not be missed by anyone who decides to come to Krumlov. The four-level Cascade Fountain is especially impressive. It is decorated with statues of nymphs and water deities, as well as sculptures of frogs and fish. The garden is beautifully landscaped and blooms beautifully in summer.

During the walk, we watched with some concern the sky, where the clouds began to chase. This is also evident in the photo with the lock. Therefore, we decided to return to the pension quite pragmatically, pack something warmer and waterproof, and after dinner we preferred to drive to the castle park.

We settled into the auditorium well in advance. It was sold out. Unfortunately, the weather looked worse and worse with the weather. So far, we have not admitted that we will be so unlucky and it will really start raining. But the thunder that began to echo from a distance worried us. And we probably weren't alone.

Well, there was nothing you could do, the show started. After less than half an hour, it began to crack, because the clouds were completely black. The spectators began to fidget and get dressed. We weren't lazy and at least we wore waterproof jackets. The actors continued to play as if nothing had happened. After a few more minutes, the wind blew and it began to pour like a can. Although we took our raincoats, unfortunately, before we could put them on, because the wind was taking them away, we were soaked. As well as the seats from which we got up while getting dressed. The funny thing was that while we spectators were hiding from the rain in raincoats, Mylady de Winter was hiding under Cardinal Richelieu's cloak.

We laughed at that, but the rain turned into a burst of clouds, accompanied by the roar of thunder and the light of lightning. The actors ran to hide in the adjoining building and we spectators huddled under the auditorium. Which, of course, wasn't perfect, because we were still soaked to the skin, and we literally had a swamp in our shoes.

We waited for a while with the others to see if the weather would change, but it didn't look good. We decided to regret the show, and we had no idea if it would be finished at all. But I have to admit, I didn't feel like culturing so wet.

In half an hour we were already sitting in the pension nicely dry, with a cup of grog to warm up. The next day we learned that the performance was still going on, but in the end we didn't mind. After all, who wouldn't know how the Three Musketeers end up…
