Another Italian camp we visited on our trip to Italy this year was the Centro Turistico Città di Bologna camp. As the name suggests, it was an urban campsite near the large Italian city of Bologna. Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna province and currently has around 392 inhabitants. We were in the camp for one night and the main goal was, of course, a visit to Bologna, which is famous for its monumental monuments, a large network of arcades, great gastronomy and an ancient university.
Camping outside the city in a quiet environment
The campsite is located outside the city in a quite quiet environment. The navigation took us to the campsite perfectly, so there was no great wandering around the great Bologna. The gentleman at the campsite reception was very pleasant, and in decent English he explained everything we needed to know about the campsite. Mainly he gave us a map of Bologna and information about the bus that goes directly from the campsite to the city center once every two hours. I also bought bus tickets at the reception, one ticket cost 1,50 euros . The choice of bus was really good because driving to the center of crowded and busy Bologna and looking for a parking place would have been very stressful. That's how we managed our visit to Bologna with the help of a city bus.
A decent urban campsite
There aren't many Italian city campsites, so we were happy to find a few of them and it actually set the direction for our next trips around Italy. The one near Bologna was equipped with a nice swimming pool, restaurant and decent social rooms. On the contrary, there was no supermarket here. There were also very few playgrounds for sports, only a small children's corner with climbing frames, a table for table tennis and one table for table football.
Accommodation in camp
Campsite Centro Turistico Città di Bologna is mainly used for those who want to visit Bologna or as a transit camp for further trips through the great Italy. Except enough places for tents and caravans, there is also the possibility of accommodation in cottages and small sympathetic brick houses. The price was a little more expensive compared to Ravenna, for one night for two people, including tent and car, we paid 40 euro, which for a long time was a kind of standard amount that I paid in other Italian campsites.
Peaceful campsite with a nice pool
Camp Centro Turistico Città di Bologna is otherwise a relaxed and peaceful camp, which has a really nice pool, which we also used for an hour. A deckchair with a parasol is available free of charge. Otherwise, other camp equipment was standard, decent toilets, washrooms and sinks for washing dishes. Unlike the camp in Ravenna, this time there was no shortage of toilet paper or liquid soap in the toilets. However, there were a lot of mosquitoes in the camp, the most in all of Italy, and there was no pond or lake in the vicinity of the camp.
Snacks and meals
There was a small restaurant right in the camp. However, the small supermarket was missing. I really appreciate the bus stop that was right next to the campsite, it is the terminus of line 68 . However, we received the timetable written at the reception of the campsite, with information on where to get off in Bologna. However, the bus does not announce the stops, so we had to turn on the navigation on our smartphone to get off correctly. The drive to the city center took about twenty minutes.
Tips for trips around the camp
The main attraction near the campsite is, of course, the ancient university city of Bologna, which certainly deserves more attention than our five or six hours of sightseeing. Nevertheless, we managed to visit several local magnificent temples, including the main church, which is called the Basilica of San Petronio. We also visited the highest and most famous Bologna tower, which is 97,2 meters high. It was an incredible experience, because the Torre degli Asinelli tower is the highest leaning medieval tower in the world. It is not as beautiful as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but it is undeniably higher . After climbing the 498 steps, you will see the most beautiful and impressive views of Bologna. Another indisputable attraction in Bologna is the arcade, which measures 38 kilometers in total length. In many places, the arches are very elegant and above all serve as reliable protection from the sharp and scorching sun.
