The next Italian campsite we visited on our trip to sunny Italy was International Camping Modena. It was an urban campsite under the busy A 15 highway near the city of Modena. The A15 motorway runs from Parma to La Spezia. Modena is an Italian city located in the province of Emilia-Romagna. Currently, Modena has around 186 inhabitants and its city flag is yellow and blue.
Accommodation for one night
We were in the camp for one night and wanted to see Modena, which is famous for the museum of the famous Ferrari brand and also for nice historical monuments. The address of the campsite is Strada Cave di Ramo, 111 - 41123 Modena (MO). The camp is open all year round.
First impressions of the camp
The campsite was located very close to a busy highway, which has only one advantage and many other disadvantages. One single advantage is that you don't have to look for the campsite in a complicated way, and with one exit from the highway you will find yourself in front of the campsite gate in a few minutes. You can imagine many other disadvantages yourself: constant traffic from the highway, unattractive surroundings of the campsite, not very healthy air. The campsite happened to be not only under the highway, but also under the toll gate station, where many cars and trucks stop and start again.
Large campsite with small occupancy
The campsite is quite large, so with relatively low occupancy, which we surprisingly experienced in July, you have a lot of privacy in the campsite and almost everything to yourself. According to the camp's official website, the site area is 22 square meters. People go to the campsite mainly for one or two nights at most. The reason is clear, most people stop here to rest from long journeys on the highway or to see the city of Modena for a day, which is not uninteresting. In addition to your own tent, you can stay here with your own caravan or mobile home.
Description camp
The campsite is quite large, but all the equipment of the campsite is already well past its zenith. In Czech terms, we would say that the camp remembers the gray and bygone socialist times. This applies not only to toilets and bathrooms, but also to playgrounds and swimming pools. We did use the pool, but at first glance it didn't look very inviting. The campsite has a flat plot, which is divided into gravel zones and grass bottom zones. The presence of tall trees provided good shade, which we appreciated. There are 40 equipped places inside, each of them has an electrical connection (6A-10A/220V).
Sanitary equipment
There was a fairly well maintained toilet block with showers at the campsite where free hot water was available. Behind the toilets were sinks for washing dishes and clothes, a washing machine and a clothes dryer. In addition, it was possible to wash the car and caravan in the space designated for this.
Snacks and meals
The International Camping Modena campsite has one kiosk with refreshments, which is located near the sanitary facilities. The kiosk had the option of sitting at tables with chairs. In the kiosk it was possible to reserve bread, a croissant or breakfast for the next morning. The Il Borgo restaurant is also located near the campsite, where traditional Italian food was served at reasonable prices.
Tips for trips around the camp
The main tip for the trip was a visit to the interesting city of Modena. Modena attracts tourists primarily for its beautiful historical monuments, many of which are on the prestigious UNESCO list. The most interesting tourist candy is the local cathedral. The history of this impressive three-nave cathedral dates back to the 11th century. It is a Romanesque building that was completed at the end of the 12th century. The facade of the cathedral, which is decorated with portraits of Old Testament prophets and other scenes from the Holy Scriptures, is particularly noteworthy.
From the cathedral we then moved on to the beautiful town hall building, another one of the many amazing UNESCO sites. The most visible part of the town hall is the clock tower, which in the past had another tower, but it did not survive the great earthquake in the second half of the 17th century.
At the end of the day, we visited the wonderful Enzo Ferrari Museum, which took us back to the roots of this world-famous company. The museum building is modern and features a distinctive and unmistakable yellow roof inspired by the hood of fast cars. In the museum, you will learn everything about the founding of the Ferrari company and you will also see some of the cars that were produced under the Ferrari brand. The museum also includes Enzo Ferrari's former workshop, which has been meticulously restored and currently houses a permanent exhibition of Ferrari engines. I recommend a visit to the museum to all lovers of Formula 1 and fast cars.
